Former Red Arrow Strafford car No. 161 crosses the street as R&R associate editor Otto Vondrak stops museum volunteer Joe Nugent and his 1963 Chevy Impala at the New Y

Transportation Museum near Rochester on July 20, 2014 (above). A night photo session was added on to the museum’s “Trolleys at T

wilight” event. Earlier that evening, 161 was rolling

through the bucolic fields around the museum (below). tique cars.

A larger group of photographers took part in Saturday night’s session, which included three ladies in “Rosie the Riveter” work clothes, a group of railroaders working on the locomotives (volunteers from the Three Rivers Rambler operation in Knoxville, Tenn.) and wider scenes of the three locomo- tives. The sessions ended Sunday morning with more daytime shots. This was my fourth time visiting Roanoke with Lerro Productions, and this was proba- bly the best of the sessions. The cloudy weather may have been a blessing for the day sessions, as it provided softer light for the many railroader portrait opportunities and allowed easier balancing of light and shadows for scenes inside the bus and cars. A complete portfolio of the most recent ses- sions can be found in this issue’s digital ex- tras beginning on page 58. Subscribers can add a digital subscription to their existing

Trolleys At Twilight The New York Transportation Museum, located in the farmland outside Rochester, held its annual “Trolleys at Twilight” event on July 20, 2014. In addition to running its two ex-SEPTA Red Arrow (Philadelphia & Western) Strafford cars in low evening light, a night photo session was held featuring car No. 161. Three Model A Fords and a 1963 Chevrolet Impala were brought in as props, while museum volunteer Mike Smith and R&R associate editor Otto Vondrak were re- cruited as actors. Lighting was provided by yours truly and Michael T. Burkhart. A cou- ple of examples of the event are presented here, as well as in FINAL FRAME. And there is more coverage of this event, as well, in the extras in this month’s digital edition. —S.B.
