Norfolk & Western J-Class No. 611(above) sits outside the canopy of the Virginia Museum of Transportation on July 13, 2013, as part of a series of four photo sessions conducted by Pete Lerro and Lerro Productions. Vintage equipment and actors in period dress enhanced the scenes. VMT docent Charles Hardy portrayed a Pullman porter for a series of shots inside one the museum’s Powhattan Arrow passenger cars (below).


THE PRIDE OF the Virginia Museum of Transportation, Norfolk & Western J-Class 4-8-4 No. 611, was joined by A-Class 2-6-6-4 No. 1218 and G-Class 2-8-0 No. 6 for a series of photo sessions hosted by Lerro Produc- tions on July 12-14, 2013. The locomotives, along with a vintage truck and bus from the museum collection and privately-owned an- tique cars, were set up in scenes featuring actors in period dress for two day sessions and two night sessions. The scenes were set under the direction of Pete Lerro and equip- ment was readied and switched by the


Roanoke Chapter NRHS Mechanical De- partment (a lot of switching was involved, as all three locomotives were pulled out from under the museum’s canopy — a first for a Lerro session at VMT). The first session was Friday evening for a small group of about 20 photographers. Highlighting the session were not only the locomotives, but scenes set inside the muse- um’s vintage bus and onboard one of the Powhattan Arrow passenger coaches.
