Imachickenkicker and Flashthechicks duel for the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum Stakes win
May 25 was a good night for Shirley and Jim Wheeler. The couple’s homebred champions, Imachickenkicker and Flashthechicks, rallied to take first and second in the Grade 1 National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum Stakes at Remington Park in Oklahoma City. Imachickenkicker, Flashthechicks and Lajollas Mr Big Stuff dueled down the stretch, with Imachickenkicker out-nodding the geldings to clinch the win.
Imachickenkicker, a 3-year-old sorrel solid Paint-bred mare by Dos Poruno and out of Game Chicken, ran the 440-yard race—the longest thus far in her career—in :21.53, good for a 97 speed index. Earning $23,230 for owner Shirley Wheeler of Boynton, Oklahoma, Imachickenkicker now has lifetime earnings of $140,527. Trained by Luis Villafranco, last year’s Champion 2-Year-Old SPB was ridden by Paul Nieto.
Finishing second by a head was Flashthechicks, APHA’s reigning two-time World Champion SPB Running Horse. Clocking :21.55, Flashthechicks also earned a 97 speed index along with $8,410. Piloted by Berkley Packer, Flashthechicks helped trainer Luis Villafranco and owner Shirley Wheeler take the top two spots in the race. The son of Royal Quick Flash and Game Chicken now has lifetime earnings of $311,683.
Close behind the leaders and finishing third was Lajollas 28 JULY 2013 PAINT HORSE RACING
Mr Big Stuff, who ran the 440 yards in :21.55. Also capturing a 97 speed index, the 3-year-old sorrel tobiano gelding added $4,800 to his record, bringing his lifetime tally to $141,004. Bred and owned by Jane Cullum of Muskogee, Oklahoma, the gelding is by Royal Quick Flash and out of MCM Evelyn Lajolla. Last year’s Champion 2-Year-Old, Lajollas Mr Big Stuff is trained by Dee Keener and was ridden by James Flores.
Other horses in the field included PF Chief Runnin Bear, Dos Jakes, Hesa Sweet First Down, Spotless Redneck, Ubuyillfly, CRM Livewire and Barney Ofield.
