Imflashinthechicks, a 2-year-old full brother to Flashthechicks, is off to an impressive start in 2013, winning the Oklahoma Paint Futurity and amassing more than $60,000.

a great mare,” Shirley said. “She’s crossed very well on both horses.”

Setting the Bar Thanks to the success of her three

running-age foals to date, Game Chicken raced to the top of the Leading Dams chart, surmounting the $500,000 benchmark in record time with the fewest number of foals. It was Imachick- enkicker and Flashthechicks’ 1–2 finish in the Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum Stakes on May 25 at Reming- ton Park in Oklahoma City that pushed Game Chicken over the top, giving her lifetime offspring earnings of $516,118.

“My husband said that as much as

we’ve done, as much as we’ve got ahead of us, he really thought this race would mean more to him than anything, with both of them in there trying to run first and second again,” Shirley said. “It meant an awful lot to us. “It just seems amazing to us that she’s done so much in such a little time. In the 34 years Jim and I have been mar- ried, and through all the struggles and hard work, it’s just a great blessing and a great achievement in our lives for sure.” Currently ranked No. 3 on APHA’s Lifetime Leading Dams list—and less than $100,000 away from the No. 1

spot—it’s plausible Game Chicken might be able to set a new standard for racing dams in the years to come. “I was thinking $500,000 would be

pretty good, but now that she’s got there, I think we need to set that bar a little higher, don’t we?” Shirley said. “She’s got a lot of years ahead of her, and we’ll just keep breeding her to the best we can breed her to. Every time we go to the track, it’s just amazing. We’re just amazed at what her foals do.”
