Photo Etched Solutions for High End Automotive Interiors
P
recision Micro, Europe’s largest contract chemical etching operation, have recently
collaborated with Vestatec Automotive Engineering to bring a number of new interior design possibilities to prestige car manufacturers. With over 25 years’ experience in designing and delivering automotive engineering solutions, Vestatec has become a well-respected name in the automotive interiors market. With car manufacturers seeking to achieve and sustain competitive differentiation for their vehicles, Vestatec has designed a range of bespoke speaker grilles to replace those traditionally produced from pre-perforated sheet materials. The company saw initial success by securing a long-term agreement with Jaguar Land Rover to develop a grille for their XJ model. This grille is currently being fitted to all XJ models that are built with Meridian premium audio. The grilles are profiled using Precision Micro’s photo etching technology, a subtractive process that can produce a series of complex designs, mesh patterns and logos simultaneously, in a single machining operation.

the UK from sealing specialists Dichtomatik Ltd, has gained the Total GS EP PVV 142 certification, being the industry standard for sealing products supplied for use with piping, valves and vessels. The Kalrez® 0090 range provides outstanding resistance to rapid gas decompression (RGD), combined with a broad chemical resistance for use within harsh industrial environments. This latest certification complements the existing NORSOK M-710 certification for these products, which specifically covers ‘downhole’ applications applicable to the oil and gas industries. These combined certifications now offer considerable assurances to manufacturing suppliers of pipeline equipment to the chemical and processing industries as well as shore based and offshore exploration organisations. he DuPont™ Kalrez® 0090 perfluoroelastomer O-ring seals, available in
the best possible rating (0000) when subject to repeated rapid gas decompression conditions. This rating demonstrates compliance with the specifications of ‘no cracks or blisters visible on the O-ring’s cross section after the test’. These results demonstrate the capability of DuPont™ Kalrez® 0090 perfluoroelastomer parts to provide a performance meeting both the TOTAL and NORSOK industry standards. In addition to providing outstanding RGD resistance, these products have other properties that
ensure superior performance in even the harshest environments. This includes the chemical resistance of critical seal parts to withstand attack from more than 1800 chemical substances, coupled with high modulus at low elongation providing excellent extrusion resistance. The Kalrez® 0090 product range also offers broad temperature compatibility while retaining high
levels of resilience up to temperatures of 250°C (482°F). DuPont™ static low temperature test establishes that the sealing properties can be maintained down to -21°C (-5.8°F). While under pressurised sealing conditions, the products demonstrate a low temperature performance down to -40°C (-40°F) in laboratory tests.

measurement ranges with independent linearity to +/- 3% and average repeatability to +/- 0.5 mm. For higher precision use, a membrane potentiometer with independent linearity to 1% is available on request. Aimed at demanding linear measurement applications across all industries, they are particularly
well-matched to door and gate closures, valves and vents, lifting and handling machinery, and other areas where low-cost position verification is essential. The simple design of the IPL can be manually driven with minimal force required, or provide position feedback in combination with electric, pneumatic or hydraulic automated actuators. The field proven IP65 rated membrane potentiometer and the durable anodised aluminium frame and
plastic wiper mechanism is capable of operation in harsh environments. The temperature range for the assembly is -40 to +85ºC with humidity at 95% RH. The flexibility built into the range includes standard Crimpflex solder-tab electrical terminations and
further connector options on request. Thanks to Variohm’s own in-house design and manufacturing capability, the IPL linear position sensor can be supplied in custom measurement lengths and the mechanical interface can be application adapted for OEM customers.
