New from Bosch Rexroth is the compact A1VO axial piston variable pump, which is said to be suited to appli- cations requiring lower power consumption – such as fan drives, steering, forklift trucks and small tractors.
Described as an alternative to constant displacement pumps, this has a maximum flow of 105l/min due to high
self-suction speeds and can offer significant savings in partial load opera- tion, including work which does not demand full hydraulic power. The pump also features a controller integrated into the port plate. Axial piston pumps are widely used on ‘big machines’ due to their load
sensing capabilities which ensure that the power used accurately matches the power requirement, says the company. Smaller mobile machinery has traditionally used energy-intensive open centre systems utilising constant pumps. Constant pump systems continue to generate flow and pressure even when not required, using fuel, generating noise and heat, and they need large oil coolers to dissipate the heat generated. Wanner International’s Hydra-Cell pumps excel when it comes to pumping abrasive slurries, claims the company. Compact in size, these have a multiple diaphragm, seal-less design and the ability to run-dry indefinitely. As well as being being used
as high pressure pumps, the range can also be used for low
pressure applications such as the controlled pumping of tech- nical slurries. With no dynamic seals, cups
or packing, Hydra-Cell pumps have a high resistance to wear by abrasive particles in suspension and require little maintenance. The pumps also have a
repeatable and accurate, virtually pulse-less, output that doesn’t deteriorate over time, as might be expected from other positive displacement pumps. Because of their multi-diaphragm, multi- valve design, Hydra-Cell pumps are said to virtually eliminate product damage during pumping. Wanner International T: 01252 816847

Fixed displacement axial piston pumps and motors Flexibility, high performance and reliability are offered by the SH11C series of fixed displace- ment axial piston pumps and motors from Brevini Fluid Power (BFP). The series can be used in both open and closed
circuit systems and features a 40˚ bent axis piston design. The availability of eight different displace- ments from 55cc to 180cc and the ability to operate continuously at 430bar with a maximum pressure rating of 480bar gives the motors the flexibility required to suit many different applications. The performance is further enhanced by the use of heavy duty bearings, which permits high radial and axial loads, states the company. Also new is the SH7V series of axial piston
hydraulic motors for use in heavy duty transmis- sions. These are designed to give similar perfor- mance and reliability characteristics to the SH11C for applications requiring a variable displacement
The Pneumatro Namurl range of solenoid valves is being distrib- uted by Rotork Valvekits. Designed for direct mounting
on quarter-turn actuators meeting Namur standards, the valves are available with a complete range of approved pilot solenoid operators. The valves are suitable for operation in a wide range of tem- peratures and include versions for high flow applications. Hazardous area solenoids are also available with ATEX Category 1, 2 and 3 approval, while further interna- tional hazardous area approvals include IEC, FM and GOST. The products, which are suit-
able for customers in the valve making, valve actuation and associated industry areas, will be available off-the-shelf. Rotork Valvekits T: 01623 440211

hydraulic motor. The range offers high power density and improved efficiency at low speeds. Designed with a minimum to maximum displace- ment ratio of 1:5, optimum performance delivers between 32cc and 160cc. An optional feature allows the motor to operate at zero displacement. Both ranges of motors
offer a variety of shaft ends, a plug-in version and are also available in SAE and ISO variants. Typical applications are earth moving and construc- tion equipment; material han- dling and lifting vehicles; concrete and mining applications; and industrial machinery. Brevini

Enter 235 OEM pumps used for new batch cell culture system
When TAP Biosystems developed SelecT, a fully automated flexible batch cell culture system, it consulted Watson-Marlow for advice on positive displacement pumps that could deliver metering performance without being difficult to clean. As a result, up to 15 Watson-Marlow 314D pumpheads were mounted vertically on the machine’s external front face to meter process
fluids such as cell culture media or PBS rinse solution. Using tubing linked to a rack or refrigerator containing the fluids, liquid is moved into the system’s HEPA-filtered aseptic laminar airflow processing area for metering onto cells. Using SelecT, growth and harvesting is commenced by locating flasks of cells into an incubator inside the unit which are then fed with
cell culture media. When the culture media no longer contains any nutrients, the fluid is pumped out of the unit and safely discarded. Over time, the cells will have grown sufficiently to be ready for splitting into multiple batches. Once these are fully confluent, they are harvest- ed, pooled together and dispensed by the robot into the additional flasks or plates ready for the final stages of downstream processing. The SelecT also makes use of two Watson Marlow 313FAC pumps
mounted externally alongside the 314D pumpheads, which transfer the fluid required for the washing sterilising the cell collection and dispensing pot. Both the 313FAC and 314D are designed for 24-hour operation. The former offers flow rates of 50Hz up to 1350ml/min at 270rpm, while the latter has four rollers for minimum pulsation and accepts seven tube sizes without requiring adjustment. The success of this project led the company to adopt Watson-
