Now available from Regal is the SyMAX IHP (integral horsepower), a permanent magnet AC motor range with a radial flux design that is said to deliver high torque, ultra high efficiency and increased power density. Meeting IE4 efficiencies with 15% fewer losses than the

equivalent NEMA Premium motor, this is lighter than a typical induction motor and features a totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) construction with shielded bearings and shaft seal, claims the company.

The range features the patented MAX GUARD insulation system which combines corona resistant magnet wire and a low stress winding configuration to guarantee dependable motor life; and the IP55-rated enclosure enables its use in applications that require a high degree of protection against the entry of dust, water and other contaminants.

Furthermore, the very high torque-to-inertia ratio ensures a higher dynamic response, resulting in consistent

and repeatable machine performance. The output power is such that in many cases a direct drive configuration is possible, eliminating mechanical driveline components such as gears and belts, explains Regal. The rare earth magnets enhance power and also allow for significant energy savings, making the motor

suitable for commercial and industrial machinery, pumping, air movement, and many other applications. Regal UK/Rotor UK

VSDs for efficient flow control

AC variable speed drives in the VACON 100 FLOW range are designed for effi- cient flow control with pumps and fans. These feature dedicated application menus for water and other pump and fan segment applications, and are available with power ratings from 0.55kW to 160kW, allowing energy savings. Based on the technology used in the

VACON 100 family of multipurpose AC drives, these have: dual-zone PID con- trol which allows two process parame- ters to be controlled simultaneously; integrated frost protection; start and sleep boosting; soft pipe filling, which runs pumps at low speed until the pipe is filled; and an anti-ragging function that detects when a pump is blocked and initiates a cleaning sequence. A real-time clock allows pump duties to be rotated at preset times. The drives have a run-to-destruction

fire mode, enabling their use in sprinkler and emergency ventilation systems, and a start-up wizard and quick setup mode. They also support multimotor operation, which allows a single drive to control up to eight pumps. This can be optionally configured so that, with up to eight drives, the lead pump duty is automati- cally rotated among the available pumps to help equalise wear and tear. Also featured are integral Ethernet

and RS485 ports, complemented by support for a wide range of communica- tions options, including Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, Profinet IO, Profibus DP, Lonworks and BACnet. The drives also incorporate a safe torque off (STO) feature, and ATEX-certified motor over-temperature protection. Vacon www.vacon.com Enter 223

Hygienic motors suit food industry demands Designed without cooling fins for easy cleaning, Nord DriveSystems’ new three-phase induction motors are suited to applications in the food and beverage industry. These aluminium motors can be

finished with the nsd tupH surface treatment for a corrosion protec- tion level similar to that of stainless steel drives and without the danger of flaking that occurs with coatings. The NORD- developed treat- ment is compliant with FDA Title 21 CFR 175.300 requirements. Initially in sizes

80, 90, and 100 with motor power output from 0.37 to 2.2kW, these are available in non-ventilated

and ventilated variants, with ingress protection of at least IP66. Additional features include

efficiency levels corresponding to IE2 or higher; and brakes and full thermal motor protection can be optionally ordered in addition to incremental encoders. Nord Gear T: 01235 534404 www.nord.com

New to ACS Motion Control’s SPiiPlus EtherCAT Control Solution family is the UDMpc, a line of EtherCAT universal single and dual axis drives for AC servo/ DC Brushless, DC brush, two phase and five-phase step motors. Designed to be mounted on

a carrier board, the module operates as an EtherCAT slave under any SPiiPlus EtherCAT master controller, including the PC-based SPiiPlusSC Soft Controller. It is designed to address high performance appli- cations with demanding move and settle, smooth velocity and stand still jitter requirements with power of up to 400W/800W (continues/peak) per axis. Features include a range of cur-

rent levels – 2.5A/5A (cont./peak), 5A/10A and 10A/20A – and an optional safe torque off (STO) module that cuts the power to the motor without removal of the power source to comply with SIL-3 and PLE safety levels. It can also be provided with a break out carrier board and a set of mating connectors. This carrier board also enables the user to configure the safety and general purpose inputs and outputs (5V, 24V, sink or source); test the STO operation and set the network ID of the unit. The module can be used with

any of the company’s SPiiPlus EtherCAT controllers, and is sup- ported by the SPiiPlusNT Suite application development studio. ACS Motion Control

New models added to brushless geared motor range Following the launch of the MINAS GV brushless geared motors, two new models have been added to the Panasonic MINAS range. The GP geared motors suit 4-point positioning in a power range 50 to 130W; the KV motors and drives give performance approach- ing servo levels but at low cost in the power range 50 to 750W. Available from Techdrives,

these are compact in size, pro- vide accurate speed holding over a wide range, and are energy efficient. GV general purpose models

suit transport drives in check- weighers, inspection machinery and other areas where precise speed holding is needed over a wide range. Three sizes of motor at 50, 90 and 130W are combined with gearheads that have available ratios from three to 2000. MINAS brushless technology results in small sizes, and torque is delivered with a flat characteristic so there are no starting shocks.

The GP range looks like the GV and shares many

of the features, but also has the ability to give 4-point positioning with smooth S-ramps. This suits cases such as indexing, reciprocating drives and door drives. Maximum rated torque is 18Nm and rated output speeds are 60 to 600 r/min. The KV motor looks

much like a servo motor but the use of MINAS brushless technology results in lower costs. The low inertia gives a highly dynamic drive with performance close to true servo levels. The KV suits speed control and is particu- larly useful as an upgrade where stepper motor driven machines need higher

performance. There are five sizes from 50 to 750W and the speed control range is 100 to 4000 r/min. Techdrives www.techdrives.co.uk
