After a stint at Uvalde and Sul Ross he came back to start “at the very, very bottom. I was really hard on him, and maybe too hard. He learned things that I didn’t learn for lots of years. He probably knows more about the cow business than I do now,” Geist- weidt says. Looking back on the sales that


emptied pastures in 2011, and see- ing a little bit of rain around the state, Geistweidt says as long as ranchers can stay in business, “we’ll be here. As long as these guys can hold on to the factory, then they’ll be able to reproduce. We might have to sell those babies at a lighter weight than we want to, but if you can hold on to that cow, that will help us all.”
