Freestone County Man Indicted on Felony Theft Charges
A
4-MONTH CATTLE THEFT INVESTIGA- tion concluded May 1 after a
Freestone County man surrendered himself to authorities. Jackie Lynn Farish, 68, of
Wortham, was indicted April 24, on third degree felony theft regard- ing missing livestock. In December 2012, TSCRA Spe-
cial Ranger Jimmy Dickson was contacted by a New Mexico rancher concerning a shortage of 124 head of cattle that were supposed to be bought, preconditioned and deliv- ered to the victim by Farish. An investigation by Dickson and
Sergeant Clayton Aldrich, of the Freestone County Sheriff’s Depart- ment, revealed that Farish had taken payment from the victim for at least 55 head of the cattle but never pur- chased them. He also charged the victim thousands of dollars for feed and care for cattle that didn’t exist. Dickson praised the assistance
he received from Freestone County Detective Aldrich and the Freestone County District Attorney Christo- pher Martin. “Freestone County is a big ranch- ing area, and authorities here take

ranch related crimes very seriously,” Dickson said. Farish is currently in custody
at the Freestone County jail on a $20,000 bond. If convicted he could receive up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fi ne.
Poteau Man Jailed in LaFlore County on Cattle Theft Charges
A
POTEAU, OKLA., MAN WAS ARRESTED May 2 by Special Ranger Bart
Perrier on a warrant for 4 counts of larceny of livestock. Kevin Lyle Hanna, 50, was
charged with allegedly stealing 4 commercial cows that were branded and ear-notched from his neighbor in February. While investigating, Perrier
found sale records at the Fort Smith Stockyards in Fort Smith, Ark., indi- cating that Hanna had sold 4 cows matching the description of the sto- len cows. Perrier tracked down the stolen cattle and confi rmed they belonged to the victim and were sold by Hanna. “We would have never been able
to positively identify these cows and charge the suspect if the owner hadn’t branded them,” said Perrier.
“This is a prime example of why it is so important to brand your cattle.” Hanna is jailed at the LeFlore
County jail on a $12,000 bond. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fi ne. The investigation was conducted
in cooperation with TSCRA and LaFlore County Deputy Sheriff Paul Cole.
