India’s tourism industry is one of its largest, generating $121 billion (6.4% of GDP) in 2011, and creating 39.3 million jobs (7.9% of total employment). During the last 20 years, its tourism sector has expanded 229% and is predicted to grow at an average annual rate of 7.7% in the next decade. In 2011, there were almost 6.29 million foreign tourist arrivals to the country, the majority coming from

the US and the UK. Such fi gures place India fi fth in the rank of countries with the fastest growing tourism industry. Some of the most iconic tourist attractions in India include the Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri and the Mahabodhi Temple. The Sundarbans, waterfalls in Western Ghats and the Himalayas, and several of the country’s beaches are also attractive tourist destinations.

Visas Tourist Visa
Tourist visas are valid for three to six months and allow single, double or multiple entries. They are non-extendable and non- convertible.
Business Visa Business visas are valid from three months to one year and allow single or multiple entries, but the period of stay for each visit is limited to six months. Urgent Business Visas are also available for business travellers coming to

Employment Visa An employee of an Indian company, or who intends to do honorary work (without salary) with Registered NGOs in India, can apply for an Employment Visa. However, the visa may be valid for a limited time, irrespective of the duration of the contract, in which case, applicants can apply for a further extension of up to 5 years.
Student Visa/Entry Visa These allow students to pursue regular studies at recognized institutions in India. The visa allows multiple entries and is valid for the period of study as approved by the educational institution.
Medical Visa
Those travelling to India for a medical treatment can apply for a Medical visa. The visa can be single or multiple entry, and requires documents explaining details of the treatment.
