fi tbody Are You A

Sarasota called “Tough Mudder.” From the beginning, the energy among the thousands of diverse participants was one of determination and teamwork. Before they could even cross the start line, they were required to climb a 7 or 8-foot plastic wall. I watched with much interest and amazement, thinking “Why would anyone pay money to go through these diffi cult challenges?” The more I walked around it became

obvious that this event was meant to teach everyone present some important life lessons. To start, there were hand- held signs everywhere which read “No Quit In Here” which reminded me of the struggle we all have within our house called the human body. The truth is the trillions of cells in our body carry the same sign, working 24/7 to bring us to a victorious earthly fi nish. It is the mind that has the greatest challenge to overcome fears and negative programming to create an environment within the body for the cells to thrive. I observed a participant with one leg and one arm scale one of the obstacles with teeth-gritting determination—eventually making it across the fi nish line with a smile. Clearly, the strength of his mind was the most important factor in the challenge, as it was for many others who were also physically-handicapped or lacked the training for such an event. Similarly, if you or someone you know has been diagnosed with a life- threatening dis-ease or is struggling to stay in the game of life, consider joining the Tough Mudder “life event.”

ast year my 26 year-old son invited his family to support him in a 12- mile obstacle- course challenge in

To start, you have to agree to the Tough Mudder pledge:

1. I understand that Tough Mudder is not a race but a challenge.

2. I put teamwork and camaraderie before my course time.

3. I do not whine, kids whine.

4. I help my fellow mudders complete the course.

5. I overcome all fears.

Number Five may be the most important one, as I experienced in my own health challenge, but all fi ve present an opportunity to transform any unhealthy thoughts. Overcoming breast dis-ease, with only nature’s help, was a major challenge for me. At the start of the journey, seeing the retracted nipple and feeling the intermittent pain were the physical challenges. The most challenging part was the mental worry and fear, thinking the symptoms could get worse. In fact, the latest research mentions “worry” as the dominant emotion in women who experience mastectomies. That energy-in-motion (emotions) of fear and worry is the driving force in the choices most women make when faced with changes occurring in their bodies. And the energy-in-motion determines whether healing or victory can take place. Since most powerful energy in the universe is love, at the start of your major challenge, bring out the “love” signs (affi rmations) to remind yourself who created you and why you’re here. I am so grateful for my dis-ease journey. I now have more appreciation,

understanding and confi dence in the divine program of the human computer that’s activated in a stressful situation. Similar to the participants in the Tough Mudder challenge, at the end you can look back and see the strength and courage you thought you never had. It is another opportunity to embrace new holistic healing and strengthening tools that honor our body, mind and soul. Another opportunity to commit to a lifestyle that embraces and fans the light of greatness in others while nourishing that same light and greatness within ourselves. Wow, all these wonderful opportunies can be inspiring! After observing early Tough Mudder victors, my husband and I decided to start walking backwards from the fi nish line to fi nd my Tough Mudder son. About a mile or two from the end, we joyfully sighted a weary, muddied but determined young man heading toward us. With his teammates close beside him, he scaled the last two obstacles and rushed across the fi nish line. Just as thousands of men and women met the challenge that day, we can have a similar experience when we choose to integrate body, mind and spirit to overcome dis-ease. I call it having “a yoga mind” where the inhaling and exhaling remind us to bend and stretch with every challenge. Breathing deeply is your act of worship as you are reminded that without that oxygen your life on this planet ends. The simple act of breathing in and out gives honor to the One who created this breathing machine.
