Ultherapy S

ince its introduction in the US a few years ago, Ultherapy has become a hugely successful non-surgical ultrasound treatment for counteracting

the eff ects of time and gravity on the skin. Now customers in the UK are reaping the benefi ts too. T e FDA approved treatment involves a smooth applicator placed upon the skin, used to deliver low levels of focused heat to the required areas, targeting below the skin to leave the surface undisturbed. T e treatment stimulates the growth of new collagen, resulting in a gradual tightening and fi rming, which gives natural lift over time. Tracey Bell from the Tracey Bell Clinic told us:

“It is the only machine of its kind that is FDA approved, which means it does tighten skin and stimulates collagen. I’m a great believer that if a machine says it can do something it should actually deliver, and this defi nitely delivers.” Ultherapy, which is predominantly used for

the face and neck, is the only non-surgical skin rejuvenation procedure that uses ultrasound to view below the surface of the skin and target the deep foundational layer of tissue that doctors address in surgery. Dr Bell said that, primarily, there are two types

of candidates for the treatment: “T ere are those that have never had any procedure done before and they want a pure non-surgical lifting device that is semi-permanent. You also get the other

individuals that are highly educated in non- surgical and anti-aging treatments i.e. they’ve had botox before, or they may have even had some laser treatment done on their face. We treat men and women, typically from the age of about 40, right up to an 83-year-old client I’ve treated in Liverpool. T rough all the treatments I have provided I’ve never had a non responder. I’ve always had a result.” In the FDA clinical trials, nine out of ten patients had a noticeable, signifi cant lift on the treated area, creating a more youthful look. T e invisible eff ect from the procedure is the creation of new collagen, which can help to slow down the rate of skin aging. Dr Bell said: “People often don’t want a new

face, they just want their old face back or to hold on to the one that they’ve got. T e immediate feedback I tend to get is ‘wow’. But that wow eff ect just gets better. On a male, for example, one of the areas it’s good to use on is underneath the eye area. It’s particularly good on bags or a jowl. You can immediately see that the jowl is tighter. I almost work with it as if it’s a small staple gun. T e results are almost instant and they get better and better.” T e full eff ect of treatment will build gradually

over the course of two to three months, while some patients may benefi t from more than one course of treatment.

Dr Bell said: “I would usually recommend

clients coming back in around 15 – 18 months after the initial treatment. Not necessarily for a full face treatment, but maybe in another area. Individuals might come in to have their necks done and come back in 8 – 10 months later and say ‘can you do around my eyes?’ Ultherapy can also be used on bingo wings and for tummy tightening.” Dr Bell, who off ers a range of treatments

from dental to laser therapy, believes Ultherapy can be used to great eff ect in conjunction with other procedures. She said: “An ideal treatment might be some Ultherapy and some resurfacing of the skin. T is would produce new collagen underneath the skin as well as on top of the skin, so it’s a win-win situation. I’m very good at listening to the individual client. People don’t want to spend their whole life in a clinic. T ey want longevity of results. I would say let me use the tools that I’ve got to give you the best results.”
