LIONEL 00 AND FARISH HO J3E HUDSONS

ly, the Farish Hudson continued produc- tion into the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. One can compare it with contemporary domestic HO production, particularly Man- tua, Penn Line and Bowser, which were making more finely detailed cast locomo- tives. U.S.; American Flyer’s 1955 smoking, Choo-Choo version was $36.95. Farish sales must have been good enough for it to have undergone design upgrades, but how well did it do here? Consider- ing the immediate post-war era, with its brief 1950-1953 Korean War restric- tions, not as severe as World War II’s, would Farish Hudsons have made it across the ocean when American Flyer HO production was on hiatus? It’s in- teresting to note a British OO train manufacturer decided to make an HO model of a famous New York Central Super Hudson for export to the U.S. when the only other domestic one on the market was plainer version.
