SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL
It is easy pickings for the likes of Have I Got News For You and Mock the Week, but it seems that the warm weather has gone to the head of road signage contractors. While
Cambridge City Council has painted some of the shortest lines in the UK (see page 11), so contractors working on behalf of Swindon Borough Council have painted double yellow lines
While most residents in the borough are laughing the matter off as an amusing mistake, there is also a feeling that the council has wasted money. A spokesman for the council said: ‘It seems our contractors forgot just how big cars actually are when they painted this one. ‘We will be taking it up with them.’
The lines were originally ordered as part of an initiative to clamp down on illegal parking in the town’s alleyways.
NEW MOVE FOR PATROL
The Parking and Traffic Regulations Outside London (PATROL) joint committee welcomed Cheshire East as its new host authority on 1 April, taking over the role from Manchester City Council. The headquarters of the Traffic Penalty
Tribunal have now moved to Wilmslow. Chairman of the joint committee, Cllr
Ken Gregory said: ‘This is an exciting opportunity for the joint committee, Cheshire East Council is an extremely forward thinking authority and we look forward to working with the team. I would like to place on record the joint committee’s thanks to Councillor Jamie Macrae and Councillor Rachel Bailey at Cheshire East Council for spearheading this move.
He added his thanks to Manchester City Council for its support since the inception of the joint committee and the Tribunal.
