BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE Unity Advert 90 x 128 v2:Layout 6 26/3/13 17:48 Page 1
The publication of the BPA’s Five Year Strategy in 2012 placed the consumer at the heart of the organisation’s thinking, stating that its vision was ‘To achieve excellence in parking for all’. The delivery of the strategy builds on the successes of the Sector Skills Strategy that began in 2007, and enabled the BPA to begin to address the concept of achieving excellence within the parking profession. Raising standards will continue to be a focus this year as the BPA embarks on a project to review the core requirements of membership for all those applying to join the BPA. For those who are already members, the development of a framework of excellence will enable member organisations to achieve and demonstrate even higher standards, and, be recognised as excelling in the parking profession.

The framework will provide an opportunity for any corporate member of the BPA to undertake an assessment against 12 categories. Similar to the principles of the Investors in People programme, the framework of excellence will enable BPA members to demonstrate excellence in those 12 categories. They will need to supply evidence against the categories to demonstrate the high standards the organisation achieves.
The framework of excellence will be a voluntary scheme for all BPA corporate members, underpinned by a series of specific standards developed for individual segments of the BPA for example, private parking operators or manufacturers and suppliers. As they are
developed, these standards will continue to raise the profile of the BPA membership overall, and will be reviewed regularly to ensure that there is continuous improvement. The framework of excellence will be launched in the summer of 2014, and the underpinning sector specific standards will be developed over the course of the current Five Year Strategy 2012-2017. As the project develops, more information will follow in BPA newsletters and in later issues of Parking News, as well as forming regular items on the BPA’s regional, country and special interest group meeting agendas.
If you would like to hear more about the framework of excellence, please contact Richard Hilton, membership and standards manager,
