Does anyone remember the first flex
track with brass rail stapled to fiber ties? I still us it on my display shelves. Congratulations on 80 years in busi-
ness. Keep up the good work. BOB FASHBAUGH Alabaster, Mich.
Congratulations on 80 years. I’m just turning 80 also and have been a sub- scriber for 62 years. The 1938 World’s Fair was in New York and my parents drove there in their 1935 Ford V8, and my grandmother took me to Boston for my first steam train ride.

I enjoyed reading about how fast the Athearn Hustler was, as told in the arti- cle, “HO Modeling, 1950’s Style,” in the March RMC. I can share with you how really fast it was. It was my first engine and one day I decided to see how fast it could go, so I set up my layout to see. It was once around to get her going, then full throttle to send her past my timing marks. The Hustler left the table at over 470 s.m.p.h., then took a 261 scale foot leap through the dormer win- dow (fortunately open) and onto the roof of the house, followed by a 1,045 scale foot drop to the ground. This was the first and last time I tried to see how fast it would go. Fortunately, it survived the fall with only minor damage.

I rather enjoyed the article on 1950’s modeling since that is about when I got serious about the hobby. I am attach- ing a picture of a Cary Locomotive Works loco that I had built for me. It
was reading the March issue I came to realize I have been subscribing half of those years. Keep up the good work. MATT LETTS via e-mail

started out as an Athearn Hustler with a Cary body. I did have the builder use an NWSL PDT drive. It runs well and services my cement factory.

Regarding Mr. Al Askerberg’s article “HO modeling 1950’s style” I am still running some of my dad’s old metal Varney tank cars along with a few all- metal hopper cars with the original in- stalled trucks. I also have a Cary loco- motive 4-4-0 kit in the orginal box that maybe someday I will build and con- vert to DCC.
