Admittedly I steered and accelerated, but that aside, the vehicle did everything. Boggy tracks were passed with ease, slippery ascents that looked impossible to safely manoeuvre were easily conquered, water pits offered little problem and even unseen boulders and rocks were crossed without a hint of hesitation. So the convoy of Range Rovers weaved its way
through the woodland and then hit the open roads with looks of horror spreading across other motorists’ faces as they tried to fathom how we could possibly get an item of beauty such as the Range Rover so filthy – and on a 62 plate! Land Rover customers have very high expectations and improving on what many deem as perfection can be both risky and dangerous. But the new Range Rover is the best looking model yet and features plenty of innovative design firsts for the company. Sean Henstridge, Land Rover Design Manager, explained: “Our customers want products with true integrity and this model recognises the past but isn’t harnessed by it. “Tere is a flowing elegance with a sense of
power and control. It’s a bold evolution- the best just got better.” But whilst the vehicle is bound by its Range Rover DNA and is instantly recognisable,

this is anything but a mere face-lift from its predecessor. As Sean Henstridge added: “Te only carry-
over component that is visible, either inside or out, is the wheel-nut. Everything else has changed.”
It has to be said, the new Range Rover looks magnificent and was shaped after months of testing in temperatures ranging from -40 to 52 degrees. And, of course, it was taken to some of the harshest terrains on the planet to assess endurance and capability to the full. Te end result is the world’s first sports utility
vehicle to feature an all-aluminium body shell. Tat makes the vehicle 420kg lighter than the previous generation model, yet it is stronger, more economical, offers lower carbon emissions and is more aerodynamic. Figures showed the test car can achieve a
combined fuel economy of 37.7mpg with CO2 emissions of 196g/km. Inside the vehicle, Land Rover has
incorporated the very finest materials to create an incredibly elegant, inviting, comfortable and feature-rich environment. Premium leathers, real wood veneers sourced
from a sustainable forest and immaculate metal finishes adorn the cabin and the technical
wizardry at your disposal is awe-inspiring. Land Rover Design Director, Gerry McGovern, said: “A Range Rover interior is something special. Simply, it gives our customers the feeling that there is no better place to be.” And I have to agree. Whether it’s bouncing
around through a dense forest taking on anything in its path or out on the open road eating up the miles in near silence, the Range Rover is truly a great place to be.
