Travel F
or couples seeking an exclusive romantic getaway Angsana Balaclava simply oozes tropical luxury. Te five- star boutique hotel is sited within a
private enclave of the island, overlooking Turtle Bay, with its raison d’être to create a relaxing and romantic ambience for honeymooners and holiday makers. At first, we were welcomed by our hosts
Vanessa and Vinay and shown to our glamorous beach front suite. Tere is a choice of two layouts with this grade of suite; a ground-floor villa complete with an infinity edge L-shaped pool, jet pool and direct access to the beach, or a first floor suite with ocean views, private relaxation pool and balcony with daybed. We opted for the former, and felt so privileged to be able to step right out onto the pristine sandy white beach, straight from our luxury haven. Te style is a marriage of rattan and teak furniture, with modern appendages such as flat screen TV’s and a Nespresso machine. Te bathrooms feature fabulous stone sinks and amazing luxury stone baths big enough for two. Te showers are extremely generous in size and indicate the Angsana is every inch the boutique property of
your desires. As we relaxed on our luxury terrace with our gin and tonics, surveying a breathtaking view of the bay, it was clear why this resort is one of the most sought-after on the island. Te staff are eager to provide a service befitting such a setting, creating a stress-free environment. At the heart of this oasis is the exclusive Tai themed spa. Aided by my therapist Anushee, I sampled the one hour pine dream massage and the warm sesame oil treatment. It was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon as I became totally immersed in the serenity. On arrival at the spa you are handed three pots containing different fragrances and as you breathe them in your senses guide your subconscious into making a choice. Te 60 minute massage was interspersed with 15 minutes of deep relaxation before and after with herbal tea. Tese indulgent treatments can also be personalised for couples. Besides the spa option there are a number of sport and recreation facilities to sample in and around the hotel. Water sports such as waterskiing and snorkelling are available and there is a choice of infinity edge lap pool or seawater lagoon pool with a sandy bottom, which features a swim up bar and stools to drink or dine in the shallows. Te evening entertainment was refreshingly refined, with star gazing my personal highlight. For a daytime activity we opted for an afternoon cooking class, which consisted of preparing and creating a Mauritian three course meal. Te whole experience was designed to be light-hearted and fun, with our photos taken with the chefs and the distribution of some handsome certificates on completion. We both received a grade of “excellent”, although I can’t imagine they’re all that discerning with their appraisal! Our chef Curtis guided us through the culinary procedure for the delightful Creole curry main. Although I’m sure the class is planned for an hour and a half we seemed to take much longer, hanging on chef ’s every word. Our stripes earned, we spent the rest of the day relaxing outside our exclusive beach front suite. Oryza is the signature restaurant on site, with a menu that changes on a daily basis. Te fusion of international cuisine, together with Western classics, reflects the multiculturalism of Mauritius. Breakfast is à la carte and served on the restaurant terrace overlooking the gardens and swimming pool. On our final day at the Angsana, following all those culinary treats, I made my way to the gym and was taken through a light but worthwhile exercise programme by personal trainer John Pierre. Te Angsana truly caters to your every desire in a most breathtaking setting. If you’re looking for seclusion and to be pampered like a celebrity then this is one resort to add to your wish list.
