Lack of time and space created a real test for us and we could not resist.

Classically Retro

Blenheim Design were challenged to help Thread Menswear open their first store in Brighton.

Brighton based interior design company Blenheim Design, specialise in retail, restaurant and leisure design.

New menswear retailer, Thread, owners Anthony and Chris, approached Blenheim Design to create their first flagship store which is located in the fashionable South Lanes in Brighton. They wanted a relaxed classic retail space with a subtle retro feel and a modern twist.

Top Right: Reclaimed doors make interesting backdrops. Main: Shop floor.

Bottom Left: Antique furniture finish the overall design off.

This project was completed in less than a month from the initial meeting. “Lack of time and space created a real test for us and we could not resist” reported Maja Myall, design director for Blenheim Design. The quick opening deadline was a real challenge for Blenheim, particularly as the existing walls and floors were in a poor state and plastering was out of the question! Reclaimed doors from the Brighton and Hove wood recycling were used to clad the damaged walls, and have provided an interesting backdrop for

50 merchandising displays.

The real challenge was to source all the materials, finishes and furniture that were immediately available in order to meet Thread’s imminent launch date. “We roamed antique and second hand shops to source the right pieces of furniture that would double up as till points, display tables and much needed storage” explains Maja Myall. An antique writing desk was altered, raised on a pedestal and turned into a till point. Once the right pieces were sourced the rest of the interior was designed around it. The finished store looks simply stunning.
