Welcome to the latest edition of PFA Scotland’s newsletter. As we approach the end of another season the focus will once again be on the financial difficulties being faced by our game. This takes away from the terrific efforts you as players have made during this difficult time. The public are often unaware of the professionalism shown by players. Often players play without wages or bonuses remaining unpaid and the dedication shown keeps clubs afloat as without the matches going ahead there can be no club. Again administration and liquidation are a possibility and at the sharp end as players your livelihoods are affected. Having been through this process on many occasions, and with the backup of specialist lawyers, we are in a position to give best advice and representation to our members. This issue will once again highlight the good but often unseen work being undertaken by your union. Education is always a high priority and the recent media course was a huge success. Add to that the support our confidential counselling service for members with gambling and other addiction problems or mental health issues we can provide our members with trusted advice. You will see in this issue that our annual careers day and Awards Dinner are fast approaching. I would recommend that you attend both; the Careers Day offers advice, information and guidance on future care planning for members of all ages. The Awards Dinner is always a great opportunity to mix with fellow pros and celebrate the part players play in our game. There is also a report on a meeting I attended to discuss the Judicial Panel. What players want is to be able to put their point of view forward and for genuine dialogue to take place. I felt that players’ opinion was genuinely being listened to and I am sure that progress can be made. Good luck for the rest of the season.
