PLAYEROF THE YEAR AWARDS 9

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS FOR PLAYERS

PFA

Scotland Awards Dinner 2013

Players are reminded that the PFA Scotland Player of the Year Awards take place on Sunday 5th May in the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow. The ceremony includes the presentation of all divisional Player of the Year awards as well as Young Player of the Year and Manager of the Year. Furthermore there is the announcement of the Team of the Year in each division.

Those attending can also look forward to a champagne reception, after dinner entertainment and a VIP After-Show Party at Corinthian.

Should any players require further information or wish to reserve tickets then please contact a member of the PFA Scotland team.

As ever increasing numbers of players sign shorter term contracts then the approach of summer brings about the end of employment for some players. Undoubtedly, being rejected by a club or finding yourself without a team over the close season can be a difficult situation to deal with and therefore PFA Scotland would like to remind players of the current support structure for those who may suffer mental health issues as a consequence. We have a continuing relationship with SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) and “see me” Scotland’s campaign to end the stigma of mental health problems and are able to provide expert assistance to any player worried about how they are feeling, as well

as continuing to drive towards an increased acceptance within the game of player’s speaking openly about their mental health. There is extensive information, advice and contacts listed on our website www.pfascotland (click on the ‘About’ drop-down) and further support can be offered by contacting a member of the PFA Scotland team who will treat any approach in the strictest of confidence. Concerns over your future, retirement or pressure from constant performance evaluation are only some of the factors that can affect a player, and therefore it is vital that players give as much consideration to their mental well-being as they do their physical condition.

Careers Day Mental Health Workshop for Coaches

As part of PFA Scotland’s annual Careers Day on Wednesday 24th April at Hampden there will be the opportunity for coaches in attendance to participate in a Mental Health workshop.

The session which will be hosted our partners SAMH and “see me” will be a relaxed, informal discussion group aimed at providing information and guidance for coaches on how to recognise the signs of mental health issues, and how to provide initial support to players. PFA Scotland would encourage those coaches who are coming along to the event to take part in the session, as the feedback from those who attended a similar workshop last season was very positive. Anyone requiring more information on this should contact Jack Ross or Craig Flannigan at PFA Scotland.
