the clients,” she said. “I think that’s some- thing we can actually fix in a relatively short time to start bringing clients back into the hospitals.” Knutson said she receives regular
reminders about the power of Pet Cross- ing’s preventive wellness programs when she sees healthy and active patients who have been visiting her since she first started practicing. She also sometimes finds herself working with adult clients who were kin- dergarten-aged when she first met them. With wellness programs, “the rela-
tionships you have are phenomenal,” Knutson said.
Expanding AAHA’s footprint Although becoming AAHA president
gives Knutson a prestigious platform to share her interests in dentistry and well- ness, she said her biggest goal is enlist- ing every AAHA-accredited hospital in the effort to communicate the value of AAHA
accreditation to clients. She firmly believes that by championing AAHA, hospitals can boost clients’ perceptions of the value of their services and give prospective clients a reason to say, “I choose AAHA.” Trying to communicate this goal to thousands of ultra-busy veterinarians is an enormous challenge and one Knutson said is an ongoing continuation of what the AAHA board of directors has been work- ing on, but she hopes to take the efforts to new heights during her presidency and give future presidents a clear path to building a legion of AAHA champions. “We want to have a grassroots effort
with individual hospitals coming together in collaboration to take the message out to the public so everybody knows what AAHA is about,” Knutson said. “We want people to understand the message behind the standard of veterinary excellence.” n
Seth Davis is AAHA’s online reporter/editor.
“I’m really thrilled to go talk to people about the importance of wellness and why it’s so much more rewarding to practice wellness medicine than disaster medicine.”
