First Annual Precision Awards Program Honors Top North American Dealer


Most Valuable Dealership Judging Panel


The challenging job of choosing the first Precision Farming Dealer Most Valuable Dealership went to three highly experienced individuals that comprised the independent judging panel. This year’s group includ- ed Dr. Harold F. Reetz Jr., owner of Reetz Agronomics LLC., Terry Brase, professor of Agricultural Geospatial Technologies at Kirkwood Community College, and Dan Westegaard, trainer/facilitator Spader Business Management.


Dr. Harold F. Reetz, Jr. Owner, Reetz Agronomics LLC, Monticello, Ill.


Reetz has nearly 40 years of experience as an agronomic consultant in the areas of high-yield cropping systems, precision farming technology and on-farm research. From 1995-2009, he was the lead organizer for the InfoAg Conference series and served as co-coordinator of the International Conference on Precision Agriculture in 2008 and 2010. He currently serves as executive director of the International Society of Precision Agriculture.


Terry Brase


Professor of Agricultural Geospatial Technologies, Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa Brase has been teaching precision farming since 1993. He facilitates the precision ag program at Kirkwood that provides graduates with skills for a career in precision ag at equipment dealerships or agronomic retailers. Brase has served as principal investigator of several National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education grant awards including AgrowKnowledge, Development of the National Center for Agriscience and Technology Education.


Dan Westegaard


Trainer/Facilitator, Spader Business Management, Sioux Falls, S.D. Westegaard is the primary instruc- tor for Spader Business Management Group’s Profit Strategies and Parts & Accessories Management Workshops. He also presents other workshops and seminars relat- ed to farm equipment dealership business manage- ment and serves as facilitator of Spader 20 Groups. Westegaard worked for a major farm equipment manu- facturer for 16 years in service and sales, and he man- aged multi-store farm equipment dealerships for more than 10 years.

Brokaw Supply Co. is Precision Farming Dealer’s Most Valuable Dealership for 2013.

he 2013 recipient of Precision Farming Dealer’s fi rst an- nual Most Valuable Dealership is Brokaw Supply Co., in Fort Dodge, Iowa.


In total, 39 U.S. and Canadian dealerships ranging from equipment dealerships with precision departments to precision- only operations were nominated by their farm customers, preci- sion equipment suppliers and their own employees. Nominees were asked to provide information on their preci-


sion product sales and service growth, and also break down their investment in precision staff, training and marketing. Nominees were also asked to describe their service standards, training methods and plans for future growth. The types of progressive precision programs offered to cus-


tomers and a metric for measuring customer satisfaction are prime indicators of a top-notch dealership. For this inaugural honor, an independent panel of judges was


asked to evaluate precision ag sales growth and where dealer- ships are generating revenue from hardware, software and pre- cision service sales. The judges also analyzed less quantifi able elements that de-


fi ne the best precision farming dealership, such as employee training, performance standards, innovation, long-term business plan and community involvement.
