Exhibition preview IMHX 2013 Laser-guided

vehicles to view OCME will be showing one of its Auriga Laser Guided Vehicles (LGV) at IMHX. Automatic LGVs can perform the rou- tine tasks that are normally carried out by forklift and clamp trucks, except without the need of a driver. The cost saving associated with labour is usual- ly significant, however LGVs can also help to reduce operating costs in other ways; for example, no unexpected bills for repairing damage caused by forklift trucks to the building, machinery and product. Also, about 50 per cent lower maintenance costs.

Another benefit is the improvement in

safety. The vehicles travel at a maximum of 1.5m/sec and follow predefined paths to +/- 5mm accuracy.

Have a go on forklift simulator

Toyota will be presenting its operator training forklift simulator to show visitors at IMHX 2013 to show how they can drive down damage costs. Toyota Material Handling’s forklift simulator aims to identify poor habits and improve driving techniques without moving a wheel.

The purpose of this simulator is to sig- nificantly raise awareness of the risks involved in the complex process of mate- rials handling and the cost of getting it wrong. The simulator uses three display screens to allow users to see forward, side and rear views. Operators are timed to see how long it takes them to accom- plish various tasks which include; vehi- cle loading /unloading and travelling up and down ramps. During the simulation operators will need to be observant and take the correct actions as they follow the

course, for example; at blind corners they will need to look for other site traffic and observe pedestrian walkways. Visitors to IMHX will get the chance to trial the simulator and be assessed on their driving skill. Visitors will need to check availability and register on the main Toyota stand. The Toyota Training Academy team will also be on-hand to guide visitors through the simulator Toyota Material Handling T: 0870 8501400

Virtual lock for secure shipping

The new Sick LAC (Logistics Access Control) system, launched at IMHX, provides operators with a solution to providing a ‘virtual lock’ on access to designated secure areas for overseas goods transportation. International anti-terrorism measures are placing increased demands on logistics operators to demonstrate to customers they have secure shipping arrangements in place that can guarantee to avoid any cost- ly hold-ups by customs authorities. The new Sick LAC System provides a

‘virtual lock’ to ensure secure access of people and goods into designated secure areas and in particular can support oper- ators with ‘known shipper’ status for air freight to the US.

The Sick LAC combines non-contact laser measurement sensing with long- range RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology and integrated software in one complete, ready-to-use system. As a customs-compliant access control system, the Sick LAC System helps transport firms meet the C-TPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) requirements of the US Customs Authority, as well as European Authorised Economic Operator status. Weigh forward for lift trucks

At IMHX, RDS Technology will be exhibiting its range of on- board weighing systems for fork- lift trucks – the Liftalert, Liftlog 100 and Liftlog 100+.

These systems offer load moni- toring and weighing functions with an internal alarm to warn when load threshold is approached and at the overload point. The Liftlog 100+ also offers a totalising feature, making it suitable for applications where multiple pallets are to be check- weighed or loading storage sys- tems where weight limits are to be adhered to. Negating the need to travel to a floor-mounted plat- form scale often sited in a remote part of the warehouse, the Liftlog range provides a time-efficient means of check weighing.
