aragon will supply Havi Logistics with its routing and scheduling optimisation soft- ware for planning deliveries across Europe. Havi Logistics will use the software to implement dynamic daily planning of deliveries to McDonald’s and other customers, including IKEA, BP and OMV, Compass Group and Nordsee. Paragon will enable Havi Logistics to adapt better to fluctuating delivery volumes and further improve trans- port efficiencies. The company will also use the software for strategic plan- ning, enabling the company to model efficient and cost-effective routes and select the most appropriate distribu- tion centre for delivering to customers regardless of their location. The com- pany is aiming to reduce transport costs using the software while lower- ing emissions and enhancing service. "Our business is growing across our existing customers and we are win- ning new clients too. Paragon’s auto- matic routing and scheduling software allows us to integrate new delivery points efficiently and quickly. Our objective is to achieve high efficiency levels with the lowest carbon footprint for our operations. Havi Logistics subjected Paragon to a rigorous selection process before awarding the contract. “We looked at a number of suppli- ers and asked them to prove the capa- bilities of their solutions using real simulations based on our existing business. Following final evaluation, we asked Paragon to trial the system for us in two different countries to prove the software’s capabilities and suitability. Gist, supply chain solution special- ist, is using Paragon transport optimi- sation software to ensure efficient food deliveries to major retail stores across the UK. Using Paragon for both strate- gic fixed route and daily dynamic planning, Gist has been able to opti- mise the use of its fleet by modelling, and implementing, alternative cost- effective delivery scenarios. This has enabled the introduction of high-effi- ciency double-deck trailers, thereby reducing the size of the fleet and the number of delivery routes while main- taining the highest level of service. customers. Gist plans its UK and Ireland delivery routes for its distribu- tion centres (DCs) centrally at its head- quarters near Basingstoke, Hampshire, using the software.
“Paragon performs consistently and gives us a clear view of the operation and that is how we’ve been able to bring in new vehicle technology to improve delivery efficiency and save on the number of routes, while main- taining our industry leading service levels,” says Jonathan Mahoney, trans- port and network consultant, Gist. “We are able to use the software to spot opportunities to make efficiency and service improvements; you would- n’t be able to get such an instant view with manual planning methods. We also use it strategically to run ‘what if’ scenarios and use the reports within any proposals to customers. For exam- ple, we use it for assigning stores to a DC; this is particularly useful when considering stores that are located on the border between two regional DCs. The software helps guide our decision and proves to be reliable.”
Gist uses Paragon for a mixed fleet of about 600 temperature-controlled vehicles ranging from 7.5 tonne rigids to double-decker articulated trucks. The vehicles are fitted with vehicle tracking systems from Isotrak. The tracking system runs in conjunction with the planning software, both working together to help maintain a careful eye on service performance. “We use the Isotrak tracking system alongside Paragon and are able to moni- tor actual delivery performance against the plan.
