New ABB app highlights potential compressed air energy savings

Norbar launch new torque multipilier

orbar Torque Tools is proud to announce the launch of its Pneutorque® PTM-92-4000, a powered torque multiplier ideal for the open cast mining industry where large haul trucks are used. The PTM-92-4000 replaces Norbar’s PTM-92-3500 in the existing PTM-92 series. The new multiplier offers an increase in torque output from the 92mm gearbox, made possible with a new output carrier manufactured from a high strength, specialist steel. The update comes as part of Norbar’s on-going policy of continual improvement.

N Pneutorque

operation is extremely quiet - less than 85dB (A) - with absolutely no impacting,

comfortable for the operator to use,

making them reducing

fatigue and consequently increasing safety. The Pneutorque PTM-92-4000, like other Pneutorques, consists of a robust air motor driving a Norbar multiplier with three or more stages of epicyclic gearing. Torque control is achieved by adjustment of the air pressure.

ew ABB app points the way to compressed air savings in valve control applications Users of pneumatic valve positioners can now assess the energy efficiency of their valve installations with ABB’s new compressed air calculator app for the Apple iPhone and iPad. Based on the amount of compressed air consumed by conventional positioners, the app shows how using the latest smart positioner technology can help operators to dramatically reduce their energy costs Easy-to-follow instructions show the user exactly what parameters are needed to calculate any potential savings. The user is prompted to enter the number of pneumatic positioners on site, air cost per standard cubic foot and the percentage of time spent at a steady state to calculate the user's current compressed air energy costs. These costs are then compared to the potential savings that could be achieved using ABB's TZID-C and EDP300 intelligent positioners, where compressed air is only consumed when required. Ref: ‘Compressed air calculator app’. To download the ABB app, please visit the Apple App store and search for “ABB Compressed Air Calculator”.

New Fluke Current Loop Calibrator F

luke, the global leader in portable electronic test and measurement technology, has introduced the Fluke® 709H Precision HART Loop

Calibrator, an easy-to-use tool with a user-friendly interface and HART capabilities that reduces the time it takes to measure or source, voltage or current, and power up a loop. With its best-in-class accuracy at 0.01% of reading, the Fluke 709H is ideal for process technicians who need a precise loop calibrator and powerful HART communicator in one compact, rugged, reliable tool. The Fluke 709H supports a select set of HART universal and common practice commands. In the communicator mode, technicians can read basic device information, perform diagnostic tests, and trim the calibration on most HART-enabled transmitters. In the past, this could only be done with a dedicated communicator, a high-end multifunction calibrator, or a laptop computer with a HART modem. The 709H also features a built-in, selectable 250-ohm resistor to tune the loop for HART communications. The Fluke 709H and non-HART 709 models feature an intuitive interface with dedicated buttons, a Quick- Set rotary encoder knob, and simple two wire connection for quick, easy measurements.

Bonmarché banishes drive-

aways with Salvo™ B enter 815

onmarché, the UK’s largest value womenswear retailer for women aged 50+ years, has improved the safety of its loading and unloading operations with the adoption of Castell’s Salvo™. The interlocking drive-away prevention system has been installed on all seven loading bays at Bonmarché’s Grange Moor head office, Yorkshire.

Grange Moor,

near Wakefield, West Bonmarché’s only

distribution centre, handles an average of 140,000 garments a day, although this rises to 200,000 at peak times. Third-party drivers arriving at Grange Moor report to security and receive documentation explaining how the Salvo™ system operates. They park in a holding area, where they are met by a supervisor who checks that they understand the information they have been given. Drivers are then asked to reverse into a particular loading bay, before disengaging their engine and fitting either a Salvo™ Susie or SGL lock to their vehicle’s exposed emergency airline coupling. This action effectively immobilises the trailer and releases a key, which the driver hands to a member of the warehouse staff.
