THE OVERLAND ROUTE

Union Pacific Railroad by Ross Grenard and John Krause

Shirley Burman was inducted into the Winterail Hall of Fame on March 9, 2013. Winterail producer Vic Neves (left) and Dick Dorn performed the honors. Then it was off to Utah for a look at the D&RGW Marysville Branch by Keith Ardinger. This line was isolated from the Rio Grande’s main line by the slide at Thistle in the early 1980s and never reopened. Yet more video was on tap, as the next presentation was The Amazing Story of San- ta Fe’s RDC Cars by Ed Saalig. The story in-

A little bit of fill flash gave some pop to an Altamont Commuter Express train as it headed from San Jose to Stockton, crossing over the abandoned Southern Pacific on Altamont Pass on March 7, 2013. ACE uses the former Western Pacific route over the pass.
