Cyntech licenses Raspberry Pi logo to brand its enclosures and accessories ranges

Cyntech Components, a specialist supplier of electro-mechanical components and power supplies, has licensed the Raspberry Pi logo for use on its range of accessories for the Raspberry Pi computer. The arrangement will benefit the Raspberry Pi Foundation, which will receive a proportion of the revenue generated from selling branded products.

Eben Upton, one of the founders of the Raspberry Pi Foundation said, 'We are delighted to be working with Cyntech Components. Cyntech's wealth of experience in electro- mechanical components has enabled them to develop innovative support products for the Raspberry Pi computer that address real needs and enhance the user experience.' Cyntech’s first Raspberry Pi product was its custom designed enclosure that was initially offered as a raspberry colour plastic case and has since appeared in a variety of other colours including vibrant blue, black and translucent plastic, with appropriate names like BluBerry, BerryBlack, IceBerry and also the two-colour BlackIce. This compact, low-cost case is tailored to fit the Raspberry Pi board and provides openings for all the connectors and a light pipe window for viewing the board’s LED indicators.

Adding further protection for the Raspberry Pi, Cyntech has recently introduced a cover for the SD card slot – this secures the SD card in the case, preventing its removal, accidentally or otherwise. Through the company's online shop Cyntech is able to offer a range of accessories specially selected for use with the Raspberry Pi computer. These include power adaptors (UK 3-pin or Euro 2-pin versions) and a range of cables to fit the board’s various interface connectors e.g. HDMI, Ethernet, USB (type A to B), RCA composite video, 3.5mm stereo audio and a GPIO ribbon cable.

300,000 download 3D CAD model programme from RS website

According to RS Components (RS) over 300,000 downloads of 3D CAD models from the RS website have been recorded. This milestone comes just over two years after RS launched the 3D CAD programme to provide engineers with access to an extensive library of 3D models downloadable completely free-of-charge from the RS website.

The RS 3D catalogue now exceeds 30,000

models from more than 40 leading manufacturers, with new additions being progressively introduced. The models are available to download in all of the most common 3D CAD formats, accessible via the company’s 3D CAD microsite or through its ModelSource

component library on DesignSpark, the RS online community for engineers. “The rate at which engineers are using our

web resources as their source for 3D models has really taken off, and in the past twelve months we have logged double the amount of downloads as in the previous year to reach this impressive figure,” said Mark Cundle, Head of Technical Marketing, RS Components. “Our data analysis shows that the uptake is truly global, evidence that engineers in virtually every country around the world are increasingly starting to trust and rely on RS for support with their designs.”

L2Tek announces Valens chipset cutting HD video networking costs

L2Tek, a manufacturers' representative and distributor of components and sub-assemblies for professional video and high-speed communications systems, has announced the Valens VS020 video networking chipset which supports HDMI interface. The VS020RX and VS020TX enable uncompressed HD video, 100W power (PoE/PoE+/PoH) and control signals (RS232, RS485 and CIR) to be combined and transmitted over Cat5e/6a cables at distances up to 150m, 50% further than Valens' previous generation of devices.

The all-in-one connectivity over Ethernet cables dramatically reduces cabling complexity and cost, and saves both time and space during installation. In addition, the reduced number of connections increases system reliability. Applications include digital video recording (DVR), network video recording (NVR) in hybrid systems, CCTV video surveillance and machine vision. Video is transferred at up to 3Gbps with low

latency of 10µS over 150m of cable. VS20 devices can be used to create networks based on a star topology or nodes can be daisy-chained for scalability.

The chipset, consisting of a receiver and transmitter, is now available from L2Tek.
