Murata extends power rating of 5.2 kV isolation miniature DC/DC converters

Murata has announced the MEJ2 series of fully encapsulated compact through-hole 2 Watt DC/DC converters. Providing a pin-compatible upgrade path from Murata’s NMJ, MEV1 and NMV series, the MEJ2 2W devices are available with either single or dual outputs covering the nominal voltages of 3.3, 5, 9, 12 or 15 VDC. Input voltage variants accommodate 3.3, 5, 12 or 15 VDC.

In a compact SIP format, the MEJ2 series has about twice the power density of its predecessor, the NMJ series, while offering safety agency recognition according to UL60950 for basic/supplementary insulation for voltages up to 200 Vrms.

Recognition to the medical standard IEC

60601 (3rd Ed) is pending and provides for one measure of operator protection (MOOP) to 200 Vrms. With guaranteed internal physical spacing’s, and a factory test voltage of 5.2kV, the MEJ2 series can be used with confidence in high noise environments where conventional high

isolation parts with 3kV test ratings but only functional isolation and no guaranteed spacing’s may not be adequate.

The series maintains high levels of efficiency down to typical and light loads saving power, reducing temperature rise and increasing product reliability.

CUI unveils EN50155 compliant DC-DC converters for railway applications

CUI Inc has introduced a new family of board mount dc-dc converters developed for railway applications. The modules are designed to comply with the EN50155 standard, which specifies input, EMC, mechanical, and environmental requirements. The internally potted and encapsulated design provides increased system reliability through added protection from environmental factors such as dust, moisture, and shock and vibration. Offered in industry standard quarter brick and half brick footprints respectively, the 100 W VQB100R series and the 150 W VHB150R series are highly efficient, reaching levels up to 92.5%. Though the modules are designed primarily for railway applications, the VQB100R and VHB100R series also target designs that may experience high transients, including telecom systems and battery-powered equipment. The dc-dc converters provide a 3:1 input range of 66~160 Vdc and output voltage options of 5, 12, or 24 Vdc. They are designed to deliver a case operating temperature range of

Since June 2012, electrical medical devices need to meet the 3rd Edition of IEC-60601 to be placed on the European market. In response RECOM is now offering a wide range of DC/DC converters that are certified to the stringent requirements of the IEC/EN 60601 - Medical Equipment standard and are suitable for a variety of medical applications in which high isolation and low leakage currents are required. The product portfolio includes fully certified DC/DC converters with a power range from 0,25W up to 15W. For example RECOMs new RAM (1W, unregulated), RAZ (1W, regulated) and RTM (2W, unregulated) series, offer an isolation voltage up to 4kVDC and an operating temperature range up to 100°C. For higher wattages the regulated converters of the series REC10 (10W) and REC15 (15W) are suitable. They achieve efficiency up to 87% and can be used in ambient temperatures of between -55°C and +71°C.

The RECOM “/R” series have a specially designed reinforced isolation transformer core and new insulation materials to ensure that not only the 3rd Edition of IEC-60601 required clearance and creepage distances are observed, but also higher isolation voltages of up to 10kVDC can be guaranteed.

The RxxPxx/R and RxxP2xx/R series (1W and

2W respectively) are isolated up to 8kVDC and available in a space-saving SIP7 case size. The 2 watt version is also available in a DIP24 case (RV series), making a changeover to the new technology simple without requiring a new PCB layout in many cases. The efficiency is close to 88% - so the ambient operating temperature

can be up to +85°C with convectional cooling alone and without any derating. The REC3.5 and REC6 series have 3.5 and 6W power rating, are isolated up to 10kVDC and come in a standard DIP24 case. They have an approximately 20% higher power rating than their counterparts with standard isolation and reach efficiencies up to 86%. The maximum ambient temperature is +85°C for the REC3.5 with natural convection cooling and without derating. The more powerful REC6 works, up to +75°C under the same operating conditions. For both series the case temperature can reach +105°C.

-40°C to 100°C and provide 2250 Vdc I/O isolation. Protections for over voltage, over current,

short circuit, under voltage lockout and over temperature are included. Additionally, all models offer remote on/off control, remote sense, and carry CE and UL/cUL 60950-1 safety certifications.

10kW high voltage power supply systems from HiTek Power

HiTek Power has introduced the OLH10K family of 10kW high voltage power supply systems which have been designed to meet the requirements of ion and electron beam systems, ion implantation and X-ray equipment. These reliable, single output systems

are mains powered and there are three different input voltage variants available to order: the OLH10K (208VAC), the OLH10KC (380VAC) and the OLH10KE (400VAC). All provide a range of maximum output voltages from 60kV to 300kV and 10kW output power. The OLH10K is a modern, technologically advanced replacement for HiTek Power’s established Series OL10K, with numerous features being incorporated to ensure system integrity is maintained during adverse operating conditions, including thermal monitoring of critical components and continuous internal monitoring of demand, feedback and mains input voltages to ensure unit operation always remains within specification. In addition the power supply system incorporates HiTek Power’s unique Arc Count & Extinguish

New Ericsson advanced bus converter targets network-attached-storage applications

Ericsson has launched the industry’s first digitally controlled Advanced Bus Converter that is specifically aimed at powering Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) hard-disk applications that operate with high capacitive loads up to 15 millifarads (mF). Based on the Ericsson 3E FRIDA II platform, the BMR456 ‘High-Cap’ series (BMR4560004/018) provides stable and accurate 12V bus voltage over the full input- voltage range.

(ACE) system for managing systems where arcing at the load is endemic.

The Series OLH10K systems consist of two units: a rack mounting power converter through which both local and remote controls can be facilitated, and a separate HV unit employing HiTek Power’s renowned modular disc construction.

RAID and NAS applications developed for data centres are designed for high performance and reliability and require very stable and smooth bus voltages without disturbances. Designers tend to use large arrays of capacitors, often resulting in an average value of 12 to 15 mF, to secure that the bus voltages delivered to hard disks and other sub-assemblies are exempt from noise. Developing these types of products can be a challenging, but the BMR456 ‘High-Cap’ converter makes full use of digital controls in addition to its Ericsson Energy and Performance Optimizer firmware, and embeds a voltage- mode-control algorithm that maintains a tight output voltage between 11.88V and 12.12V and accurately controls the 20 millisecond ramp-up time.

Designed for 12V bus applications that might only require 6V in standby mode, controlled via

PMBus commands, the output voltage of the BMR4560004/018 can also be adjusted to as little as 4V, even powering 5V board-level subsystems in idle mode, delivering significant headroom to board designers.

The device has an output power of 420W and a flat efficiency of 96% from low to high load, guaranteeing the lowest power dissipation at any point of load and contributing to reduced energy consumption and total-cost-of-ownership for end customers. Designed to be fully integrated the BMR4560004/018 includes a USER_STORE memory block, which can be used by system designers to store their own customised configuration files to profile BMR456 High-Cap behaviour to match certain conditions.
