Electrical Safety Register news Targeting is key to green take-up 

A consumer-focused campaign to promote the

Electrical Safety Register (ESR) reached an audience of more than 32 million people following coverage on national TV, radio and newspapers. The ESR, which was created as one of the initial elements of the partnership between the ECA and the Electrical Safety Council (ESC), contains details of more than 36,000 ECA members, ELECSA and NICEIC registered contractors. As part of the campaign, ESC

director general Phil Buckle and ESR spokesman Tony Cable appeared on BBC Breakfast News, highlighting the dangers caused by DIY electrical work and stressing the importance of using a local, competent electrician listed on the ESR. Buckle also took part in radio interviews, in which he urged people to visit

commented: ‘The Electrical Safety Register is a huge step forward in making it easier for homeowners and clients to understand what our brands mean, and will greatly help them in their search for a certifi ed local contractor. ‘With 80 per cent of electrical

work carried out by electricians who are registered with NICEIC or ELECSA, combining them into one central database makes perfect sense.’ Bratt concluded: ‘But at the ECA we are so much more than certifi cation – we are certifi cation-PLUS. It is our services that set us apart, and we are working to highlight to clients and specifi ers the added peace of mind they get when working with an ECA contractor, from the guarantee of work to the warranty and bond schemes.’

UK homeowners are being sent inappropriately targeted

marketing information across diff erent industries, according to research from the Energy Saving Trust. A third are receiving junk mail, cold calls, spam emails or calls from salesmen on a daily basis, while 80 per cent are receiving this information at least once a week. Following the launch of the

Green Deal, Philip Sellwood, chief executive at the Energy Saving Trust, commented: ‘There is clearly a market out there for green measures, but the key to selling them eff ectively is targeting them correctly. Catching homeowners at the right time with the right energy effi ciency measure for their home has always been crucial for businesses and will continue to be the case under the Green Deal.’
