What’s new on the ECA’s Energy Solutions e-forum? By Bill Wright, head of ECA Energy Solutions

The ECA Energy Solutions web forum is continuing to keep members informed on the latest developments in the energy world and encourages discussion between members on energy related topics. A range of information on

government policies and energy news has been uploaded to the site in recent weeks. Information topics have included:  The Green Deal – A lot of information has been published by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), with the launch on 28 January. There are still some questions to be answered on how it all fi ts together and how SMEs will work with the Green Deal Providers. This

is developing all the time, and whenever new information becomes available then it will be loaded on to the web site.

 The National Solar Centre – Launched in St Austell, Cornwall.

 Energy Performance Certifi cates (EPCs) in large buildings – From 9 January, all buildings that already have EPCs and are open to the public – commercial as well as public – must display their EPC.

 News on the VAT debate – DECC is currently arguing against the ruling by the EU that energy effi ciency equipment should be charged at full rate of VAT rather than the fi ve per cent levied at present This could run for a

long time.

 Ofgem – There has been an explanation of household energy bills from Ofgem.

 Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) – An off er to look at members’ applications for the RHI before submission to OFGEM for registration and payment.

Consultations Consultations in this period included two on RHI and one on Electricity Demand Reduction, all of which can be found in the downloads section of the ECA website (www.eca.co.uk). The Electricity Demand Reduction paper looks at ways that absolute electricity reduction, instead of generation, could

receive a grant. The paper discusses and asks for views on several diff erent proposals. Members can very easily join

the e-forum and get the latest news and comments on energy and energy effi ciency matters by following the link on the ECA home page to the Energy Solutions e-forum. The Energy Solutions ‘Hotline’ is 0207 313 4867.

Signing up to the Energy Solutions e-forum is free and easy, and new members are always welcome. It is available to ECA registered members only. To sign up, visit http://forum.eca.co.uk
