installationnews UNITED KINGDOM RNSS ‘wows’ at rugby stadium By Erica Basnicki
NORTH LONDON’S Allianz Park stadium, home to the Saracens rugby team, has upgraded its audio offerings with a new sound system designed and installed by RNSS Limited. After outlining his vision for the rugby stadium of the future, Saracens CEO Edward Griffiths brought in sound engineer Roger Lindsay as consultant for the project. His view was that many rugby grounds had antiquated sound systems, but believed rugby fans had higher expectations due to better TV, domestic sound systems and music venues. Lindsay brought in RNSS to
work up the design with him and deliver the project. The company
Allianz Park is one of
RNSS’s most significant sports installations
is no stranger to high-profile projects, having been responsible for audio at the mammoth Jubilee River Pageant and River of Music last year, and also the long-term contractor for audio
at Southbank Centre and The Barbican. The project at Allianz Park is one of the most significant sports installations the company has undertaken in recent years.
In total, 182 speakers were installed throughout the stadium, including 54 EM Acoustics EMS81s and 34 EMS61 loudspeakers with 15 EMS112 B subwoofers.
Other speakers include 12 One System 112 all-weather speakers, eight Funktion-One AX88/F118 arrays and four EAW SB1000 subwoofers. Yamaha makes up the bulk
of the amplifiers, with 47 P2500S, 3500S, 5000S and 7000S units installed throughout the arena. Eight Funktion-One E45 and two X04a power amps were also installed. A Shure ULXD digital wireless system and a Yamaha LS9 console complete the audio system. “From the outset, we wanted
anybody visiting Allianz Park to experience a series of ‘wows’. The sound system is, without any doubt at all, a ‘wow’. It offers, as Roger Lindsay would say, sound you can feel rather than sound you can hear. We may have identified the target but, through their expertise and commitment, it is RNSS who hit the bulls-eye,” commented Griffiths. n
