UK MUSIC technology and performance education specialists dBs Music recently took delivery of eight Allen & Heath GS-R24 analogue mixing desks, installing four in each of its Camborne and Bristol teaching centres.
The GS-R24s complement
an existing array of Allen & Heath mixers – dBs has four ZED-R16 desks in its Plymouth site and four ZED- 10FX mixers in each of its three locations.
UNITED KINGDOM Celebrating, ‘With the Beatles’ By Erica Basnicki
IN CELEBRATION of its recent launch, the International Association of Music Colleges and Universities (IAMCU) has partnered with UNICEF for a collaborative project to mark the 50th anniversary of the seminal album With the Beatles, released on 22 November 1963.
The international project will see students from the IAMCU’s founding schools recreate The Beatles’ second album – projected for release on the day of its anniversary – with sales proceeds supporting UNICEF educational programmes. Each institution will
co-ordinate the student-led
recorded work, which will include student producers, engineers and arrangers as well as student musicians and bands. Each song must feature at least one remote contribution from the other two institutions. A short film exploring the participants’ views and cultural perspective of the original work will accompany the project.
The founding schools include The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London, LAMA College for Music Professionals in Los Angeles and Academia de Música Fermatta in Mexico City & Guadalajara.n

With the Beatlesto be reimagined in support of UNICEF
dBs Music opened its first
centre in Plymouth 15 years ago, with Camborne and Bristol following in 2011 and 2012
The Allen & Heath GS-R24 analogue mixing desk
respectively. The company partners with local colleges and universities in each location to deliver specialist education to
further and higher education level, offering courses in everything from music for film and TV to live sound degrees and music production diplomas. In addition to the Allen &
Heath products that feature in each centre, dBs Music also employs Audio-Technica AT2050 multi-pattern condenser microphones, and each of their 700 or so students receives a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M20 monitor headphones to use during their studies. dBs Music Bristol centre
manager Chris Miller said: “As
a leader in the music technology sector it is vital for dBs Music to have equipment that stands up to the rigorous demands of modern audio production. With its routing flexibility and seamless DAW integration the GS-R24 is designed with such challenges in mind. Add to this the lovely transparent mic preamps, a really well judged EQ section and a couple of valve channels and you have a desk that is unrivalled in this price range.”n
