ton. The E5’s lower body panels were fluted to match the cars that it hauled but is most noted for its long, sleek looking nose. The Silver Bullet also features skirting on the upper surfaces of the trucks to match the carbody. This skirting was eventually removed. Kato does sell two more A-units for use ith their California Zephyr: Silver Speed, No. 9910A, and the Silver Pilot, No. 9911A. These two locomotives fea- ture unskirted trucks. All of the Kato


E5 locomotives come with an alternate pilot with coupler for double heading. Removal of the E5’s shell reveals a


heavy solid frame similar to the Kato E8 and PA. The motor and flywheels sit in a cradle which is suspended within the frame, and the electronics board sits on top of the motor. Four long brass wipers extend outward and make contact with long tabs from the trucks. This tried and true method yields the performance that we have
