4K production, routing and monitoring

SGL

THE ARRIVALof LTFS has switched the traditional ingest workflow around by enabling material to be transferred directly into the archive, opening up an array of new workflows and creating substantial time and cost benefits. Taking the next step in this transition, SGL will announce for the first time the Notification Service. Using a simple subscription setup, the Notification Service announces the arrival of new material to the controlling MAM system and pushes relevant data to the MAM describing material archived based on rules selected by the broadcaster. SGL FlashNet is now fully integrated with IPDirector, EVS’ suite of video production management applications. The SGL FlashNet archive provides high availability for any combination of disk and tape storage. With the addition of LTO technology the storage capability of EVS systems can be expanded almost infinitely. The integration will be shown on the EVS booth SL2416.

SGL will be demonstrating FlashBrowse, its web-based portal that allows users to perform archive, search, browse and restore operations from any machine on their network running a compatible web browser. In addition, FlashBrowse captures low- res proxy versions of clips as they are archived, and includes a proxy viewer within the browser window, so that the user can search for and view clips before restoring them. Miranda MAKING ITSfirst NAB appearance will be Miranda’s iTX Render Service for Adobe After Effects CS6 software. The iTX Render service is a completely new approach to graphics creation that inserts the full creative power of After Effects CS6 into the playout workflow. Instead of using a realtime character generator to play back graphics templates, Miranda’s iTX Render Service automates and manages rendering of Adobe After Effects projects into fully finished graphics, ready for playout from an iTX integrated playout platform or Miranda’s Vertigo graphics processors..

Benefits include the removal of creative limitations within an Adobe After Effects authoring tool and the ability to publish those complex, rich graphics on multiple channels from a single source.

Other NAB firsts will include a new frame sync input card for the NVISION 8500 series of hybrid routers and a new, high-density, streaming media encoder, the SME-1901, which will be added to its acclaimed Densité modular range. As broadcasters prepare themselves for the technological demands of 4K production and programming, so does Miranda. On the booth at NAB, Miranda will demonstrate a series of solutions that are already suitable for 4K production, including routing and monitoring technologies that will play a key role in enabling broadcasters to reach this much anticipated ‘next big thing.’ N2513

Fujitsu

PRESENTING NEW encoding and switching products at NAB, Fujitsu will be showcasing a new firmware release that dramatically improves end-to-end latency for its IP-9610, IP-900, and IP-920 HD/SD H.264 video encoders/decoders while delivering an exceptional picture quality at reduced bit rates. Suitable for HD satellite newsgathering, broadcasting, and IP streaming applications, Fujitsu's H.264 video encoders/decoders are now capable of operating at less than 99 milliseconds back-to-back latency, ensuring interaction between talent, studio, and interviewees.

Recently used during the summer games and in demonstrations at CES, Fujitsu will be showing technology for HEVC and Ultra HD formats. Fujitsu's XG-series switches offer high-performance and high-speed Layer 2 switching. Featuring ultra-low latency, flexible interfaces, and compact form factors, the switches are ideal for enterprise storage and video server applications, high-performance computing (HPC), and the Internet SCSI (iSCSI) and network-attached storage (NAS) markets. The combined solution of the new 1Gb/10Gb uplink switches with the existing XG-Series 10GbE family allows customers to deploy a homogeneous networking solution.

"At Fujitsu, we're committed to delivering solutions that solve our customers' complex challenges in delivering realtime news and sports," said Glen Green, director of sales. "At NAB this year, we'll show how our uniquely flexible solutions can transform broadcast and video operations of all sizes." SU7911
