With theatres focusing on 4K, cloud computing, post production, audio, broadcast IT and connected TV issues, many of today’s pressing technological issues will be covered at Broadcast Video Expo 26-28 February at ExCeL in London. The BVE organisers are facing head-on the painful transition from West to East London with this show. Previous location Earls Court was comfortable for the West-leaning London broadcast business, whether broadcasters, post houses or production companies. The ExCeL venue appears to be universally disliked by Londoners – as opposed to European colleagues flying into City Airport – so it is a formidable challenge to convince potential delegates to make the
journey across town later this month. The quality of conference line-up (especially the free seminar programme) and show exhibitors is excellent, so it remains to be seen whether the London- centric content creation, management and delivery community will support the event in sufficient numbers. In following pages, we’re pleased to present some of the new products you can see in the UK for the first time following European launches at IBC2012. The TVBEuropeteam, along with our new sister titles from NewBay Media, will be attending BVE in force and look forward to meeting industry colleagues at the relocated event. Fergal Ringrose

[NewTek] Clearing confusion in automated playout
[OASYS] By Fergal Ringrose
Oasys is set to demonstrate the latest features and functions of its automated playout software at BVE 2013, with live demonstrations that highlight the flexibility of the OASYS playout software.
“We continue to shatter the preconceptions about automated playout software, with
demonstrations that show just how quickly and easily we can make changes to playout configurations, giving broadcasters choice and control,” said Mark Errington, CEO, OASYS. “We are pioneers of IT-based broadcasting and have been commissioning solutions for over 20 years. We have the experience to design and deliver solutions for many different operating scenarios, using the same base servers, but configuring
them to a customer’s playout requirements.
“There is a lot of conflicting and confusing information in the market about automated playout, so we invite people to talk to us for an honest, open and simple explanation of how it all works, with the facts to make an informed decision -- not unverified statistics, marketing hype or confusing terminology.” J58
By Fergal Ringrose NewTek will showcase its full range of TriCaster live production solutions along with its 3DPlay 425 slow motion instant replay solutions at BVE 2013. Show attendees will also be able to see demonstrations of how the ChyronIP 3D graphics generator works exclusively with the TriCaster systems. The newest model, TriCaster 40, allows small-market TV stations, schools, small businesses, and production start-ups to create professional, realtime programmes and stream them to the Web, while TriCaster 8000 is designed to deliver live video for large, complex events with full integration of social media production tools. Ultimately, there is a TriCaster solution suited for productions and budgets of every size. NewTek’s 3Play system is a slow
motion and instant replay solution that lets production teams deliver network- style live sports coverage from anywhere. By packing more action and highlights into game day broadcasts, 3D Play allows producers to give fans more of what they want to see – whether produced from a van, from the press booth, or even from the sidelines. As a sponsor of the new Live Events Broadcasting seminar at BVE 2013, which focuses on best practices for live production, NewTek customers Helen Kavanagh with Stream UK, Petro Mnych with Arsenal Broadband Ltd, Mark Tasker with Fruition and Sam Usher with Redhanded TV, will discuss their live broadcasting experiences, and how they are innovating in today’s changing media production landscape. The panel session is free for BVE attendees and takes place on Tuesday 26 February at 12pm. E25
