tional details include three trans- former cooling air intake grilles on the center side panel on one side, whistles and windshield wipers by the opera- tor’s end window, dummy marker light lenses on the ends and covered sockets for electric classification lamp cords. Many of these cars were upgraded in the early 1950’s with stainless steel window frames, equipment,

along with several other changes. They were reclassified into the E5 and E6 classes. The Con-Cor models represent earlier cars in the E1 and E2 classes. A thorough review of the locomotive hauled cars appeared in the November, 2010 issue of RAILROAD MODEL CRAFTS- MAN and the comments in that review apply to these powered cars. The earli- er review is also available at the RMC website in the Craftsman Product Re- views section at http://rrmodelcrafts- man.com/reviews/cm_extra_concor_mp 54.php

Con-Cor offers these cars in five paint schemes and in undecorated ver- sions. For the Pennsy, they come in the pre-war scheme with a lighter Tuscan shade and olive trucks and underbody, in the postwar scheme with “Pennsyl- vania” on the letter board, and in the simplified “keystone” scheme. Both the Tuscan and gray schemes are planned for the Long Island cars. The paint was smoothly applied and the lettering was sharp and opaque on our samples. Con- Cor has included single red stripes the Pennsy applied to the first and last windows on the car sides to indicate whether that end had a control cab. The Con-Cor cars have new cleresto- ry roofs with end headlights. They of- fer six different roofs with correctly spaced clerestory ventilators for either the coach, combine, or baggage-mail and each with or without pantograph mountings and the ancillary air and electrical connections. Removing the roof and side assembly from the chas- sis provides access to a printed circuit board. This PC board is supported by two metal posts at each end of the car. The tops of these posts cleverly serve as electrical plugs that fit into sockets on the PC board, making the PC board removable, and they bring the rail elec- trical pick-up from the trucks up to the PC board. The PC board includes an 8- pin NMRA DCC socket,

lighting logic, LED’s for the headlights and interior lights, and two slide switches, one to turn the headlights on or off and one to select two-rail or pan- tograph and rail electrical pickup. Con-Cor has designed these cars with operating pantographs that con- nect by a wire and disconnect plug to the lighting printed circuit board un- der the roof inside the cars. A slide switch included on both motorized and unmotorized versions selects whether power pickup is from the two rails, or from the pantograph and the left rail. Con-Cor has not included levers on the lower pantograph shafts with cross- connecting rods that would cause the pantograph contact shoe to remain
