through the 1970’s such as the Erie Lackawanna’s famous NY100 or the Lehigh Valley’s Apollo trains. These cars continued to roll through the 1980’s and up to present times. This particular model, the brown “as deliv- ered” TTX scheme is how these cars en- tered service in the late 1960’s. The car’s paint scheme as well as details such as the loading ramps for continu- ous end-to-end loading makes this car identifiable “as delivered.” The car is available in six different road numbers and if you model intermodal you are going to need them.

stock, I referred to BLMA as an N scale modeler’s best friend. Once again, BLMA has reinforced the “best friend” status. The introduction of this much needed piggy-back car proves that BLMA is listening to the cries for more TOFC product from N scale modelers such as myself. And, boy have we been crying!


The BLMA ACF F-89-J 89-foot, flat car is one of those cars that modelers building for the 1960’s era have needed since the dawn of N scale. Nothing on the market has filled the void in the manner that the BLMA car has. This car was seen on most intermodal trains


The first thing I noticed about this car is the delicate detail, specifically the brake hardware. These cars are just big flat boards that trailers ride on, so the little details really make the car look like something. The brake stand is well executed. The stand itself has all the necessary parts clearly visi- ble and in correct proportion. The link- ages and associated hardware that connect this to the brake cylinder are also easily identifiable.


I also really like the end ramps that would fold down to connect each car for trailer


loading. These are correctly


molded in the color of the car and fea- ture all of the little details that these ramps should have. The stirrups at the end of the car are also very fine but durable. Like the folding ramps, they are the color of the car.


Another outstanding feature of the car is the collapsible trailer hitches. Four hitches are supplied although the car only uses two at a time. There are two collapsed hitches as well as two

The Maitland Tower kit builds into a model of the tower's initial configuration and can be modified to represent a number of other Erie west end towers. Maitland also broke up the block between Glen Echo and Cold Springs on the Dayton Branch and was used by the DT&I to issue trains orders.
