Suitable for use with either 12 or 24V excavator electrical systems, the C-Control can be an OEM product or retro-fitted. As hydraulic quick couplers are being fitted to ever-smaller excavators, the provision of a standardised control device is a very good idea. However, for it to gain widespread acceptance it will need to gain the official approval of other coupler makers.
Smaller screening solution
In our January/February 2011 issue, EHN covered the launch of the British designed and built Gyru-Star screening bucket for use on small wheel loaders. Now, following Avant’s official recognition of the use of two sizes for its machines, manufacturer Colin Smith has developed new units for excavators.
Like the loader-compatible Gyru-Star screening buckets, the new versions utilise rows of distinctive yellow coloured polyurethane ‘stars’. Designated the 2-50E, the baby of the new range has been designed to fit 1.5 to 2.3 tonne mini excavators and I witnessed its
successful debut on an even smaller carrier.
Buckinghamshire based Peter Woolnough, who runs the aptly named hire and sales company Reach it! - Move it! - Crush it!,
was the first to try out the 2-50E. He coupled the bucket to his JCB Micro excavator which, despite its name, weighs over 1.1 tonne and the combination worked well to screen the soil dug out to create a new house basement.
Colin Smith contends that his 2-50E is now the smallest excavator screening bucket on the market. Peter Woolnough considers that it offers great potential for separating soil from aggregates and roots on small building and landscaping jobs, where machine access can be restricted. He says it can also add more versatility to small mini excavators, whilst helping to recycle useful material on site.
