Business

Wongs Jewellers was established by Susan and Brian Wong in 1979 and the family business has been going strong for nearly 33 years

the last year and relocating to a spacious highstreet showroom in Liverpool city centre. Evolving over the years, Wongs has transformed

from a small repair shop to a large-scale workshop and retail outlet whilst holding on to the same business values that the family started with over thirty years ago. Showcasing a large range of independent and

award-winning brands as well as the jeweller’s own creations in store, Wongs has become the destination for quality and bespoke jewellery in Liverpool. “I began working for the family business when

I left school at 16 years old and took over the day- to-day running of the business in 2006,” said Peter Wong, Director of Wongs Jewellers. “However, my mother and father are heavily involved in the business and my father remains in the workshop three days a week. “It was a bold move for us to invest in the new

showroom but one that we think has already begun to pay off . After nearly 30 years operating out of back-street showrooms with limited space, our new home has more than enough room for our customers to sit back, relax and enjoy their time in store as well as plenty of potential for further growth.” Wongs specialise in platinum diamond

engagement, wedding and eternity rings along with luxury watches but it is their on-site

nitially set up as a small, out of sight workshop on Mathew Street, the business had moved to slightly larger premises in Rainford Square before undergoing a huge transformation in

workshop that really sets Wongs apart. “Our state-of-the-art facility allows us to design

and create custom, handmade pieces of jewellery as well as carry out valuations, repairs, remodels and watch servicing all within our city centre showroom,” continued Peter. “What happens in the workshop is at the

heart of what we do at Wongs. Our highly skilled craftsmen are integral to the bespoke service we provide and our visible workshop allows our customers to see the goldsmiths at work.” Technology plays a big part in the bespoke

journey of jewellery design for their customers and Wongs have invested in equipment, software and the necessary training for their team of ten highly trained showroom and workshop staff to deliver the professional and personal experience their customers have come to expect. By using the latest CAD technology to develop their bespoke jewellery design, allows the team to illustrate custom pieces and guide clients through each step of the design process. “T e system itself has revolutionised the way that

we design and communicate, enabling our clients to visualise the fi nished piece, and then we hand over to the skill of our goldsmiths to turn these casts into the fi nal masterpiece,” continued Peter. “As a business, we have never shied away from

new things, exciting designs or experimenting with what we can accomplish,” said Peter. “T e possibilities of design are endless and working on both sides of the process has given us the

experience to help client’s turn their ideas into beautiful, wearable designs, as well as the ability to transform their own vintage family heirlooms into timeless, modern day pieces.” As well as continuing to expand on their

bespoke engagement, wedding and eternity ring off ering, Wongs Jewellers have plans to open a small jewellery boutique just around the corner. “We currently have a secondary area just off our

own showroom, which opens out to Liverpool’s Button Street,” added Peter. “I believe that the space would be perfect for a small, silver and fashion-focused jewellery boutique and would give us the opportunity to work with even more independent and local jewellery designers.”
