The Nai l Fi le Autumn 2012 Nail Enhancement: Wraps . . . Nail Enhancement: Wraps

client worrying whether any kind of enhancement will damage their nail. This is where you need to put them at ease and give them confidence in your skills. An accurately applied and removed enhancement should not ruin the natural nail. It will only negatively affect it if it is pulled from the natural nail.

Prep and

application As with most enhancement systems, preparation of the nail is very important to prevent lifting, leading to an unhappy client! There are a few simple steps to preparing the nail before applying the wrap, not forgetting to sanitise yours and the client’s hands before beginning the treatment. First of all, make sure that the cuticle is removed from the nail, whilst ensuring not to clip anything that is living as this could lead to lifting and possibly a bacterial infection.

Secondly, remove the shine from the nail plate, and then eliminate all surface contaminators before purifying and dehydrating the nail plate layer. The tip can then be applied to the nail, ready for the application of the Silk or Fibreglass.

To apply the Silk or Fibreglass, a small piece of material

(either the Silk or the Fibreglass) is cut to the size and shape of the fingernail and applied using a small amount of resin. Once the resin is dry, the Silk or Fibreglass wrap is buffed to smooth the surface and the excess material filed away, and the process is complete. These days, Fibreglass and Silk is also available in pre-cuts, making the application process even simpler.

One of the advantages of Silk and Fibreglass wraps is that they can be a fairly cost- effective system to offer without too much science involved. Costly equipment isn’t required, other than scissors, resin, tips and activator, and there’s no mixing or UV curing to contend with, which if done incorrectly can often lead to an inadequate enhancement.

Let’s wrap

The Fibreglass and SilkWrap system from Palms Extra presents clients with natural looking nail enhancements. Once mastered, the Fibreglass / Silk enhancement is an ideal alternative to Liquid and Powder and Gel systems.

As well as being used with tips, this enhancement system can be used as a quick fix for damaged natural nails. The
