Education element for Beijing show

Scales tip against UK, US in hosted buyer program

Because of the volatility of the business environment in the UK and the US, the organiser of IT&CMA & CTW in Bangkok has adjusted the mix of its hosted buyers. Previously the trade show, which covers

business travel as well as the MICE market, has had even numbers of buyers from Asia and internationally, but this time has aimed for 55 per cent Asia-based buyers and 45 per cent international buyers. Nearly 800 buyers have applied to

attend, with a 50 per cent surge in registrations from Australia. There has been interest from such companies as

American Express, HelmsBriscoe, HPN Global, MCI Group, MMCO World and Thomas Cook Business Incentives. With the hosting committee expecting

a possible reduction in the buying power from the UK and the US, it is predicting that Asian buyers will be able to realise business with shorter lead times over the show’s three days. Managing director Darren Ng (above)

of organising company TTG Asia Media says the Corporate Travel World confer- ence program has been beefed up this year, already attracting delegates from such organisations as Accenture (India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore), Bosch (Asia), General Electric (Malaysia, Singapore), MSD Merck (Indonesia, Singapore) and Shneider (Indonesia, Singapore). New markets that have high potential

to procure corporate events in Asia are a particular focus of the trade show this year – countries such as Australia, China, Hong Kong and Philippines. Post-tours are being held to Chiang

Rai, Krabi and Pattaya, plus there are pre-show city tours covering landmarks and including a Thai cooking class. IT&CMA and CTW Asia-Pacific runs

from October 2 to 4, and from this year forward will incorporate luxury travel. INFO www.itcma.com

Industry associations are delivering education sessions for all levels at the China Incentives, Business Travel & Meetings trade show (CIBTM), at the China National Convention Centre in Beijing. Organiser Reed Travel Exibitions says the new sessions involve such associations as ACTE, ICCA, MPI and SITE.

About 200 international exhibitors feature

at the three-day show, where Executive PA Magazine is a media partner. Reed Travel Exhibitions recognises the contribution PAs make to the business travel and business events industries, director Craig Moyes telling UK event magaine CMW: “The person who plans meetings, events, incentives and congresses could well be a PA... and not necessarily have the title event manager”. Executive PA Magazine general manager

James Brome says he is talking to the organ- isers about taking a delegation of readers as hosted buyers to CIBTM next year.
