PCMA will be hosting buyers at IMEX America on Oct. 9–11 at the Sands Expo Convention Center in Las Vegas. With PCMA’s Global Professionals Conference (formerly the International Summit) co-located with IMEX America this year, planners who organize meetings outside of their home countries are welcome to attend. An invitation-only event, the hosted-buyer program is a unique opportunity for planners to network and exchange ideas with other professionals who have extensive knowledge about planning meetings all over the globe. More than 2,000 hosted buyers, thousands of attendees, and 1,800 exhibitors from 147 countries were in attendance at last year’s trade show, so this is certainly not an opportunity to miss. As one of PCMA’s smallest chapters, the Chesapeake Chapter works hard to offer its prospective and current members great educational and networking events throughout the year. One of the most notable is the Annual Venues Tour each August, where program chairs Lauren Goldberg and Heather Zucker arrange a day-long tour of new, unique, and renovated venues in Baltimore. This year, the day began at the Hilton Baltimore for lunch and a tour of the property. The group of 45 then piled onto a bus provided by Callaway Transportation and traveled to four more venues before ending the night with a tour of the event space at Oriole Park at Camden Yards and a Baltimore Orioles baseball game. Attendees were delighted with the event, with one noting: “All of the venues we looked at were unique and places I’d never considered before. Kudos!”
Planners, Start Your Bidding
The San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau and the San Diego Convention Center have partnered with PCMA for the fifth annual PCMA Citywide Auction. Funds from the auction are designated for PCMA’s high-level meetings- industry education. Bidding is now open, starting at $150,000 (representing a huge savings to meeting professionals), and will continue until 5 p.m. CST on Nov. 30. There is also a “Buy Now” option, which will immediately close the auction. The auction package includes exhibit and proportionate meeting space for a meeting to be held between now and the end of 2019, a complimentary board dinner for up to 15 guests, and more. PCMA will be hosting buyers at the 2012 Convene Forum, being held Oct. 28–31 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville. This is an exclusive, invitation-only event for senior-level corporate, association, medical, nonprofit, government, and independent meeting planners; conference and event organizers; and third parties and site-selection companies.
