COMPANY PROFILE NetDatatel set to shine
To quote that almost legendary advert promoting a brand of varnish, NetDatatel does exactly what it says on the tin and the rapidly growing company has now taken the lid off its channel ambitions.
S
ince its foundation NetDatatel has committed to providing ‘Trusted Technology Solutions’ with a major focus on customer service, channel growth and corporate social responsibility. Up to now the growth of the company has been organic with internal investment from the key directors and shareholders equating to a ‘five figure’ sum. The business claims a strong credit rating and solid relationships with financial institutions. NetDatatel is also a ‘Business of High Growth’ mentored by the relevant enterprise agencies including Highlands and Island Enterprise and Scottish Enterprise.
The duo driving the business are CEO Stewart Macdonald, MBA, who brings experience in business transformation, start-ups and rapid company growth management and Channel Director Mark Conti, who adds 20 years experience in the telecoms industry, providing expert analysis on larger fibre infrastructure projects including channel growth management skills. Both founder directors have track records within the north of Scotland business community and want to develop and expand the company across a wide area of the UK.
“The key to good partner relationships is to really understand
“We have robust partner communications portals which may be used by partners to fully develop their businesses. And, our people understand license holder/ channel partner requirements so partners can be assured they will be treated in accordance with agreements and provided with the most competitive commercials within the telecoms industry and the highest levels of commissions.”

your partners and engage with them in a concise and fair manner,” said Macdonald. “We deal with all of our partners in a consistent way, while improving their ability to grow and develop their individual channels and businesses by providing them with a robust communications platform to assist overall business growth. This has involved the appointment of relevant license holders that have the ability to thrive and grow their own businesses within an open environment allowing telecoms choice and never restricting a partner chances to grow while using the NetDatatel brand and portfolio of products.”
Partner opportunities Conti says the company has already issued two licenses, namely NetDatatelsouth and NetDatatelcentral. He commented: “We also have channel partner, reseller and dealer opportunities which all drive revenue to the business. We are keen to ensure that NetDatatel makes a difference within the telecoms industry environment and harnesses a new approach by applauding innovation and channel success. We are focused on a cross section of the market within Scotland and south of the border that includes traditional telecoms providers, IT suppliers and specific brand telecoms dealers.
Macdonald puts the company’s rapid growth down to the support and influence provided by key partners and agencies while maintaining a solid structure and management team approach during the company’s early development. “The growth of the company and the strategic partnerships we have forged have resulted in developing closer ties with major telecoms providers,” said Macdonald. “Our £1 million turnover has been achieved through a combination of channel partner growth, diligent planning in relation to networking and delivery of excellent customer service to a wide range of clients and partners.
“Our own core network infrastructure will be hugely significant to us as a company and for our channel partners, who will not only increase their connectivity options depending on UK location, but will result in pricing being among the most competitive across the UK channel. This will be acquired through developing our relationships with major UK carriers while expanding existing telecoms aggregator partnerships.”
NetDatatel’s key partner relationships currently include: O2 for mobiles and mobile communication, Gamma for SIP and hosted solutions, Oak for call recording, THUS and TalkTalk Business for connectivity and lines and calls, and Cisco for small
business development. “We have also signed an agreement with Instalec Technology Group, one of Scotland’s largest IT providers,” commented Macdonald. “This allows us to deliver cutting edge IT services including Microsoft solutions while delivering a robust wholesale telecoms portfolio.”
Cross-border ambitions While the heart of NetDatatel’s operation lies north of the border, the company has ambitious plans to expand across the entire UK. An office in Manchester has been added to locations in Inverness, Moray and Aberdeen and the company is planning to set up additional offices in London and further south.
In addition to Macdonald and Conti, NetDatatel has two more investor shareholders namely Graeme Taylor and Steve Higgins. Taylor is an entrepreneur with a proven track record of successfully managing high growth start- ups and MBOs and Higgins is a recognised expert in international business with a specific interest in investment, telecommunications, media, recruitment, sustainability and CleanTech.
Experienced Finance and Operations Director Joanne Rolland also sits on the board alongside recently recruited Austin Davidson, who has a career in the telecoms industry spanning 40 years. Davidson has held senior posts within Cable&Wireless subsidiary ECL and for the past 26 years he was a director within Nessco Group Holdings. “Austin’s appointment to the board was hugely significant as he brings a wealth of experience from within the telecommunications industry including vast knowledge across the channel,” commented Macdonald. “He will be a significant mentor for the company while developing partner relationships and corporate social responsibility.” n
