Committed to excellence Locally owned Bank of Grove setting the bar for service in Grand Lake area

Always thinking. Always planning—all the while keeping success in the crosshairs. As owner of Grand Lake’s only locally-

owned and operated financial institution, Townsend is involved in every facet of the business. Right down to the artwork hanging on the office walls.

Because, to him, it matters. All of it. Bank of Grove and its staff reflect

Townsend’s unwavering commitment to excellence. Each of the bank’s 24 employees take pride in the job they perform, and the facility sparkles—a glowing tribute to careful planning and premium workmanship. No corners were cut and no quality sacrificed during the building’s construc- tion.

Locally-owned Bank of Grove opened its doors for business in 2005.

“There are a lot cheaper ways to conduct business than what we’ve built here, but that is by design,” Townsend assured.

It seems like just yesterday that Townsend was looking out over what was a large crater in the ground just off 18th Street, watching trucks come and go. More than 1,000 loads of fill were required to prepare the site for the original 5,500 square-foot structure. When Townsend was informed that the bank he designed couldn’t be built in less than a year in Grove, Oklahoma, he found a builder who could do it six months. Townsend told naysayers: “I’ll tell you what, don’t tell the bank where it is being built and we’ll build it in six months.” Less than six months later, the project was complete.

The doors opened to the public on June 13, 2005.

Townsend and his staff began the day with nary a cus- tomer. Starting from scratch is risky business in the financial

sector, but Townsend’s confidence was never shaken. His faith in community never waivered. Ahead he forged.

4 Northeast Connection

Seven years later, Bank of Grove is a $100 million institution that finds itself positioned to serve the area for many years to come. The future indeed looks bright. “Because we are the only locally-owned bank in the Grand Lake area, we feel like what we’ve done here since starting from scratch seven short years ago is extraordi- nary, but not surprising,” explained Townsend. He is quick to credit dependable, hard-working employees and loyal customers for the success of the business. “We have the staff to facilitate our growth,” he said,

“because we offer quality services and have the ability to move very quickly in the marketplace. Local ownership certainly has its benefits. This invaluable feature gives Bank of Grove excellent leverage in a competitive marketplace. “We’re here. We don’t have to go anywhere. We own

one hundred percent of the bank. Decisions are made quickly and we act quickly,” he said. Bank of Grove doubled its size with the recent completion of a 5,500 square foot addition. Ten new offices were added, along with an impressive boardroom that the bank often uses to host events that promote the community.

SK anyone who knows Ed Townsend and they’ll tell you he is as driven an individual as you will ever meet.
