Oklahoma Department of Human Services seeks additional foster and adoptive families

klahomans are famous for taking care of their own. No matter how little time you have to give, you can do something positive that will change the life of a young person in foster care. There are presently more than 8,000 foster children and youth in Oklahoma’s foster care system. These young people have urgent needs, and DHS encourages citizens from every walk of life to get in- volved in some way.

O From hosting

a clothing or toy drive, to volunteer- ing as a tutor or mentor, or becoming a foster or adoptive parent, you can make a difference. Chad and Tonia Chapman, NWEC members from Woodward, Okla., have been fostering since the fall of 2010 and had this to say about their experiences. “Much joy is received from the children.” When asked why they serve as a foster family, this was the response, “Because the kids need love and care that for whatever reason their parents are un- able to give to them at the time.” The Chapman’s have cared for a total of six children during their time as foster parents and have been able

to maintain a connection to the children who have left their home. Ms. Chapman also had this to say, “If I had to do it all over again, I would have done this years before. I feel God has put me here to do what I do and more people are needed to care for these children.” Within Woodward, Ellis,

Harper, Beaver, Dewey, Ma- jor and (4030003) Woods Counties the goal for State Fiscal year 2013 is to add 17 additional homes. For more information on how you may become involved with these children please contact: OKDHS Bridge Family Resource Center at www.okbridge- families.com.
