McKool Smith adds veteran ITC trial lawyer
McKool Smith LLP has added veteran International Trade Commission (ITC) trial lawyer Kent Stevens to lead its Washington, DC office.
Stevens, who has more than 20 years’ experience in IP litigation, specialises in handling Section 337 investigations before the US-based ITC. He was previously a partner at Cadwalader Wickersham & Taſt LLP.
“Kent is an expert in ITC litigation and a very well-respected trial lawyer,” said Mike McKool, co-founder and chairman of the firm. “His expertise will be a valuable asset to our clients and our national IP litigation practice. I am pleased to welcome him to the firm.”
McKool Smith recently opened an office
in Silicon Valley, the firm’s eighth office. In September 2011 it merged with Los Angeles trial firm Hennigan Dorman LLP. Te merger increased McKool Smith’s litigation team by 35 lawyers. Te firm now has around 170 litigators.
Fish expands trademark and copyright group
Law firm Fish & Richardson has hired Anne M. Sterba as counsel in its trademark and copyright group.

Based in Washington DC, Sterba will advise clients on matters such as trademark prosecution
and counselling, and copyright licensing and litigation. Her practice also includes Internet and related trademark and copyright issues, including domain name protection and keyword advertising.

Gowlings hires Russian patent attorney
Law firm Gowlings has hired a Russian patent attorney to work in its Moscow office.

Tilleke & Gibbins adds trademark specialist
South-east Asian law firm Tilleke & Gibbins has added an attorney to its trademark practice group.
Linh Mai Nguyen has joined the office in Hanoi, Vietnam. Most recently she worked for a project called Support for Trade Acceleration, working with Vietnamese government agencies to draſt laws, regulation and reports covering IP.
“We’re delighted to add Linh to our trademark team,” said Tomas J. Treutler, managing director of the Vietnam office. “She has a great understanding of Vietnam law, both from a lawyer’s perspective and from the viewpoint of Vietnam’s legislators and judiciary.”
Adam Hess joins Venable in Washington
IP litigator Adam Hess has joined law firm Venable LLP and will work as a partner in its Washington, DC office.

Pittman for 21 years. At Pillsbury, he was managing partner in the firm’s Northern Virginia office.
As a veteran of cases at the federal court level and the ITC, Hess specialises in patent prosecution and transactional work for high-tech and manufacturing companies. He has also worked with companies in Japan, China and other parts of Asia.

MLA adds two partners in Washington and Atlanta
McKenna, Long & Aldridge has added two partners to its offices in Washington, DC and Atlanta. Tey are Robert C. Nissen and William Long, both litigation specialists.
Nissen joins the Washington office and arrives from Nissen & Associates, where he was managing partner and focused on patent, trademark and copyright litigation. Nissen has practised in state courts, federal district courts,
federal appellate courts and the US Supreme Court.
Long, who will work in Atlanta, focuses on commercial matters covering patents and other IP rights. He has worked on cases involving a range of IP and technology issues, including disputes on computer soſtware and hardware, pharmaceutical products, chemicals, medical devices, industrial machines and consumer products.
In a statement, the firm said it was “excited about the continued growth” of its IP practice.
William F. Abrams jumps to King & Spalding
Patent litigation specialist, William F. Abrams, has jumped ship from law firm Bingham McCutchen to join King & Spalding in its Silicon Valley office.
At Bingham he was a partner and
former co-chair of the IP practice group. Abrams has 30 years’ experience as an IP lawyer, and focuses on patent litigation and trade secrets disputes.
“Tis is a great opportunity for me to help build King & Spalding’s IP practice in the Silicon Valley,” said Abrams.
“Bill is an outstanding litigator with great trial skills,” said Timothy T. Scott, managing partner of King & Spalding's Silicon Valley office. “I am pleased that he has joined our team and know he will contribute greatly to our efforts to expand our IP litigation work and to field additional top talent for our office.”
