acdc Arrive in London!

Celebrating Ten Years of Robert Juliat Followspots at Eurovision

Robert Juliat is proud to announce that 2012 is the tenth year in which RJ followspots have been used on the Eurovision Song Contest. For the third year running, Lightpower of Germany supplied Robert Juliat followspots to this prestigious international event. The two Semi-Finals and the Finals were broadcast in three live televised events from Baku, Azerbaijan. Lighting designer, Jerry Appelt, used ten Robert Juliat spots in total - six RJ Aramis 2500W HMI followspots with DMX control and four of the mighty RJ Lancelot 4000W HTI followspots – to highlight participants from forty-two countries. “We chose Robert Juliat followspots for two major reasons,” says Appelt. “Firstly because Robert Juliat spots are extremely reliable, which is a priority on a show of this size. The Aramis’ remote DMX control is an essential feature that gave me precise control over the dimming of the spots, directly from the lighting desk. Secondly, and equally as important, Robert Juliat spots are very user-friendly. All our operators are familiar with Robert Juliat spots so know how to handle them and are very happy to work with them.”

When we heard that acdc were making the move down to London, the A1 Lighting team got our glad rags on and headed over to Old Street for the launch of the brand new London studio. We were delighted to get an invite to the event and had a great time chatting to the lovely acdc team. The new studio offers acdc a valuable opportunity to stay in closer contact with it’s London customers, and is a great loft-style open plan space that was designed by architects Fielden Clegg Bradley Studios and that suits the team perfectly. Sales Director Louise Frankland commented: “The acdc London studio provides us with the perfect setting to demonstrate our luminaires in their true environment. Whilst it is hugely beneficial to take samples to clients, being able to actually see the products lit effect in a realistic setting is invaluable. We hope the studio will become an interactive base for our customers to utilise.”

Anolis Makes Impact At Sofitel Gold Coast

Anolis ArcPad Xtreme LED floods have been specified for a high impact lighting installation illuminating the exterior of the Sofitel Hotel, Gold Coast Broadbeach, Australia. Sofitel is the premium brand properties of international hotel conglomerate, Accor. It takes just two of the new Anolis RGBW ArcPad Extremes to fill the full 23 storey high front walls of the hotel with a beautifully smooth, even wash of vivid colour. The ArcPads replace four previous 1000 Watt discharge lightsources that mean, after dark, a fresh visuality is brought to the hotel, which now stands out like a beacon from the myriad of other tall buildings dotting the famous skyline. For all this illumination, the power consumed by the ArcPads is just 580W per fixture at maximum intensity, representing 11 Amps less – or approximately a 65% reduction – across the whole installation.
