Hotel Lighting

levels, it was thought inappropriate to light the full façade, so instead the prominent ‘turrets’ and entrances were highlighted, with simple switching used to control different floors of the building so that the lighting steps back later in the evening. The interior of the hotel is equally beautiful and, working closely with the interior designer, GA Design, LDI created a scheme that compliments their contemporary interpretation of this historic building. The lighting designer on the project, Ellie Greisen, Senior Designer at Lighting Design International, wanted to illuminate the space in a way that accentuated the existing beauty of the hotel. The existing high ceilings and

architectural features were a challenge to light sympathetically and Greisen wanted to create an ambience so that the guests feel special the moment they arrive. A combination of feature pendants, intimate table lamps, down and uplights and concealed linear lighting were used to create a subtle sense of luxury across the public areas, including the entrance lobby, The Northall Restaurant and cocktail bar. The facilities in any hotel add to the sense of luxury that comes from staying away from home, and the restaurant in any hotel plays a large part of the overall indulgence. The Four Seasons Hotel is one of Prague’s most exclusive hotels, and is home to the only Michelin Star restaurant in the city. The hotel recently decided it was time to give the restaurant a new name and interior, and called on dpa lighting consultants to design the lighting scheme.

highlight decorative materials and interior details. Carefully selected artwork lighting, well integrated lighting within furniture details and candles on tables are all combined to create a vibrant and sophisticated evening destination. Lighting plays a large part in the creation of a comfortable and welcome hotel environment. Exterior lighting can be used to draw attention to a stunning façade, whilst interior lighting can be more warm and gentle, creating a sense of luxury that encourages relaxation.
