SPOTLIGHT MR RESISTOR PRIVATE RESIDENCE LONDON

5 Simply Stunning

Mr Resistor were given a project brief for a private residence in London where the main objective was to maintain clean lines and reduce fussy detail as much as possible.

The interior designer and the client wanted to highlight features without the lighting source intruding onto the space, so it was decided that LED strip would be used to provide a hidden light source. Fortunately, the construction company, Holloways of Ludlow, embraced all the ideas and set about ensuring that the design and construction of the furniture was finished to accommodate the light fittings. Due to the high ceiling, low voltage halogen downlights were used in sloped ceiling downlights. To increase efficiency, these were fitted with 35W IRC lamps, and the whole internal lighting scheme was controlled using a Lutron Grafik Eye. With the fantastic scene control, it was possible to set the level of the halogen lamps to the necessary amount for the task they were performing, allowing energy savings of 30% over conventional switches. The LED strip, rated at 70lm/W, along with LED downlights on the flat ceiling, were used to provide a good ambient light, allowing the halogens to be reduced further. The garden to the property was another major feature. The plan was to have large bifold doors which would link the external and internal spaces. The interior designer, Dolores Wilson, realised the potential for creating a stunning setting for the client to

enjoy, and set about employing Mr Resistor to create a lighting scheme complementary to the garden. Particular attention was to be paid to the large tree in the decking at the end of the garden, since the client was planning on being able to dine in the evening in this area. A combination of LED and halogen fittings were used and a WISE Controls wireless system operated the lighting. This control system both reduced the installation work and mess by not requiring switch lines, as well as enabling the client to turn on the lighting when dining at the far end of the garden.
